Wintershall DEA will begin natural gas production from its Raven field in September, unnamed sources told Amwal Al Ghad. 

The field is expected to produce up to 900 mcf/d of natural gas, and between 20k to 25k bbl/d of condensates.

The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) aims to increase gas production by 4.8 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) by June 2022, bringing the total gas production in Egypt to about 11.3 bcf/d, Amwal Al Ghad reports.

This comes as the oil and gas sector plans to develop gas fields through 19 projects with a production capacity between 4.5 and 4.8 bcf/d, a source from EGAS said.

The development work of gas fields in the past four years has contributed to unprecedented levels of increase in production, with the current total production of natural gas reaching 6.5 bcf/d, the source added, pointing out that the exploration work in the Red Sea will also bolster gas production.

Egypt has reached a preliminary agreement to extend natural gas transmission pipelines from Cypriot fields to Egyptian liquefaction plants, according to an official source at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

According to the source, the two sides agreed on some details related to the import of Cypriot gas, most notably, the extension of natural gas pipelines from Cypriot fields to the natural gas liquefaction plant in the area of Idku, although distribution of the pipeline construction cost has not yet been agreed.

Egypt signed Saturday a new oil agreement with Trident Petroleum to explore oil and natural gas in the Gulf of Suez worth at least $2.4 billion worth at least $2.4 million.

The agreement was signed by Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Tarek el-Molla, Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation’s (EGPC) chairman Abed Ezz el-Regal and Trident’s president Ehab Awad.

The agreed investments included a signature bonus of $500,000 to drill four exploration wells in Magawish Block in the Gulf of Suez.

Once an energy exporter, Egypt has turned into a net importer because of declining oil and gas production and increasing consumption. It is trying to speed up production at recent discoveries to fill its energy gap as soon as possible.

Egypt’s electricity-generating power plants consume 26,000 tons of mazut per day in addition to natural gas, reports Amwal Al Ghad.

During the summer peak, mazut consumption can exceed 30,000 tons per day, Abed Ezz El Regal, Head of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), told Amwal Al Ghad, adding that Egyptian refineries possess the capacity to cover most of the local market’s demands for mazut.

Egypt will not need to import additional mazut due to the volume of natural gas that it has secured.

The oil and gas sector is committed to securing the plants’ needs for natural gas and mazut, especially during peak periods of consumption caused by high temperatures, noted Ezz El Regal.

Egyptian Gas Production Records 3,160 tons in April - EGYPT OIL & GAS / AMWAL AL GHAD

Egypt’s gas production recorded a remarkable increase in April 2017 as it reached 3,160 tons, compared to 2,420 tons in April 2016, due to adding new fields to production and local grid, reported Amwal Al Ghad.

Furthermore, reports of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed that natural gas consumption also largely increased from 2,820 tons in 2016 to 3,340 tons in 2017.

Meanwhile, crude oil and condensates production in the oil and gas sector decreased to 2,660 tons in April 2017, compared to 3,840 tons in the same period of 2016, while oil consumption increased to 3,305 tons in April 2017, compared to 3,200 tons in 2016.

Egypt is planning to establish a petrochemical complex in Suez, with an investment cost worth more than $4 billion, Petroleum Minister Tarek el-Molla said Thursday.

The Ministry of Petroleum will build the complex in partnership with Ministry of Public Business Sector, el-Molla added in a press conference.

The Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM) as well as refineries affiliated to the petroleum sector will also cooperate to implement the project, the Egyptian minister said.

The Japanese manufacturer Toyota will be in charge of the industrial technologies needed for the complex, he added.

Total, Eni’s Egyptian subsidiary IEOC, and BP have commenced a gas and oil exploration program in the North El Hammad block, located in the conventional offshore of the Mediterranean Sea. The program aims to explore more fields in the area in order to increase Egypt’s oil and natural gas domestic.

Natural gas and oil exploration programs implemented by international companies encourage foreign investments in the sector, stated the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum Tarek El Molla during his meeting with Total E&P Egypt’s Managing Director Jean-Pascal Clémençon and Elias Kassis Vice President of North Africa Region.

Qalaa completes 92% of works on Egypt's largest oil refinery - AMWAL AL GHAD

Egypt’s Qalaa Holdings has completed 92 percent of the works in the Egyptian Refining Company’s (ERC) anticipated oil refinery project, with investments worth $3.6 billion.

The refinery, the largest in Egypt, aims to decrease present-day diesel import needs by 50 percent and Sulphur emissions by one third as well as to help reduce the country’s annual subsidy bill.

Qalaa plans to complete works and inaugurate ERC’s project by the end of 2017, managing director Karim Sadek told Amwal Al Ghad on Wednesday.

Qalaa owns 20 percent of the Egyptian Refining Company (ERC), whose current shareholding includes the state-run Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), in addition to Egyptian and Arab private investors.

Siemens is set to add 1,200MW to the national electricity grid by the end of May from power plants in the New Administrative Capital and Borollos.

Sources at the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) said that, according to an agreement with Siemens and Orascom, the New Administrative Capital power plant will add 400MW by the end of March, in addition to 800MW to be added from the Borollos power plant in the end of May.

The sheer capacity spanning Siemens’ three projects in Beni Suef, the New Administrative Capital, and Borollos that will be added before summer amounts to 6,000MW; where 4,800MW have already been linked to the grid pending commercial operation.

The minister headed the meeting of general assemblies of Misr Petroleum Company, Co-operation Petroleum Company (Copetrole), and [Arab Petroleum Pipelines Company (SUMED)].

The meeting was attended by state's Local Development Minister Ahmed Zaki Badr, Executive Chairman of The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), and other officials.

Emirati-based Dana Gas targets raising production capacity of its local partner in Egypt, El Wastani Petroleum Company (WASCO), to 235 million cubic feet of natural gas and 8,200 barrels of condensates daily.

The current production of WASCO is estimated at 195 million cubic feet of natural gas and 6,200 barrels of condensates per day.

The Emirati firm showcased its plan to raise production capacity during its meeting with Egyptian Oil Minister Tarek El-Molla on Sunday.

El-Molla met with Iman Hill -Technical Director and General Manager UAE and Egypt- and General Manager of Dana Gas-Egypt, Michael Pyszka, El-Molla to discuss company's plans to explore gas and oil in its concession areas in Nile Delta.

The total natural gas production of Egypt's Badr El Din Petroleum Company- Bapetco is estimated at around 500 million cubic feet daily, Chairman Emad Hamdy stated Saturday.

Hamdy told Amwal Al Ghad that firm's production of natural gas covers massive part of local market's needs of natural gas.

Bapetco -the local partner of Royal Dutch Shell- raised the total production within the last three years from 98,000 barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) to 140,000 BOE.

Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) signed a new oil agreement with Italy's Edison to explore and produce oil and natural gas in North East Haby area in the Mediterranean Sea.

The investments of the agreement are estimated at more than US$86 million and a signature bonus of US$1.5 million , to drill two exploration wells.

The agreement was signed by Egypt's Oil Minister Tarek El-Molla and Mohamed El Masry -EGAS Chairman- and Maurizio Coratella, Vice President for Edison’s E&P activities for Egypt and the Middle East in the attendance of officials at the Egyptian ministry.

Egyptian electricity sector seizes around 60 percent of state's total consumption of natural gas, an official source at the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) stated Tuesday.

Speaking to Amwal Al Ghad, the source added that the rise in natural gas consumption of all Egyptian sectors within the last years was the main factor behind government's decision to liberalise gas market.

EGAS owns a network for transporting and distributing gas without getting any returns on these investment, the source clarified.

Egypt's bill of importing natural gas is estimated at around US$250 million per month, Egyptian Oil Minister Tarek El-Molla stated Sunday.

He added that the Egyptian government would continue importing natural gas until reaching self-sufficiency within the coming two years.

Expanding in importing natural gas within the last few years came to cover all needs of the local market notably electricity and industry sectors, the minster clarified.

El-Molla noted that the continuous explorations in different concession areas play an important role in discovering more gas wells and fields, thus, raising state's production of natural gas.

Egypt's production of natural gas is expected to witness a leap in 2017 as pursuant to state's plans for adding production of discovered fields to the national grid, Oil Minister stated Saturday.

Tarek El-Molla said that the first phase of Zohr gas field is set to add more than one billion cubic feet of gas daily before the end of 2017.

The ministry targets covering local market's needs of natural gas through adding the production of the newly-discovered fields to the national grid, the minister clarified.

Speaking about the future of Egyptian petroleum sector, El-Molla added that around 500 million ft3/day of gas would be added to the national grid before the middle of 2017 from North Alexandria filed.

SDX Energy buys oil assets in Egypt and Morocco for $30 million - AMWAL AL GHAD

London-based Oil and gas explorer SDX Energy has bought Circle Oil's subsidiaries in Egypt and Morocco for about $30 million.

The acquisitions are expected to increase working production by 247% to about 4,705 barrel of oil equivalent per day and its net working interest 2P reserves will grow by 64% to 12.03m barrels of oil equivalent.

The company funded the acquisitions by raising about $40m (32.1 million) from a placing of 107.05 million shares at 30p each, which were admitted to trade on AIM on Friday. An application has also been made for the shares to trade on the TSX Venture Exchange in Canada. The shares represent 57.28% of the company's total issued share capital.

Egyptian Oil Ministry announced Monday that eight new wells started production since the beginning of the second half of 2016.

In its reports, the ministry stated that these wells, which are affiliated to different firms, added 517 million cubic feet of natural gas and 2,500 barrels of crude oil to Egypt's national production.

The new wells are located in concession areas joint between International Oil Companies (IOC) and Egyptian oil sector firms at the Mediterranean Sea, Nile Delta, and Western Desert.

The IOCs include Italy's Eni ,the foreign partner of Balaeim Petroleum Company- Petrobel, and Royal Dutch Shell - the foreign partner of Egypt's Badr El Din Petroleum Company - Bapetco.

General Electric Gas expands service facilities in Egypt : GAFI - AMWAL AL GHAD / ZAWYA

General Electric Gas and Oil announced Thursday it would expand its service facilities in Egypt in cooperation with the Egyptian General Authority for Investment (GAFI).

The world leader in advanced technologies and services would add 2,000 square meters to its affiliate firm in the free industrial zone, totaling 5,000 square metres.

This step comes after company's meeting with Mohamed Khodair, the CEO of GAFI.

Khodair expressed his delight over GE announcement to expand in injecting new investments into Egypt.
