EGAS Offers Six LNG Cargoes from Idku Plant - ENTERPRISE

Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) has offered six Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) loading cargoes from the Idku plant during the period between October to November 2019, Reuters quoted two industry sources saying.

The cargoes are offered on the basis of a Free-On-Board (FOB) for loading between October 5th, 2019 and November 1st, 2019.

EGAS was founded in Egypt in 2001, as an entity mandated to focus on the natural gas activities to organize and handle the activities of the natural gas resources of Egypt to add value to the Egyptian economy.

The United Kingdom is expected to receive a cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Shell-operated Idku liquefaction plant in Egypt, according to the port data.

The 161,870-cbm Maran Gas Apollonia, owned by Maran Nakilat and chartered by the Hague-based LNG giant Shell, is expected to dock at the Dragon LNG import facility in the Port of Milford Haven on March 8, the port’s shipping data showed on Monday.

The LNG tanker was on Monday located in the Mediterranean Sea, according to its AIS data.

Egypt, that has two LNG export plants, Idku and Damietta, has turned a net gas importer from an exporter over the course of 2016 due to falling domestic production.

However, the rising production at newly discovered gas fields has pushed the country towards halting LNG imports sooner than it was initially anticipated and boosted the prospects for Egypt to regain net LNG exporter status again.

One of the fields that recently started production is the giant Eni-operated Zohr gas field in the Shorouk Block, offshore Egypt approximately 190 km north of Port Said.

It is the largest gas discovery ever made in Egypt and in the Mediterranean Sea, and will be able to satisfy a part of Egypt’s natural gas demand for decades to come, according to Italian energy giant Eni.

Δυο τερματικά υγροποίησης φυσικού αερίου διαθέτει η Αίγυπτος, τα οποία είναι έτοιμα να υποδεχτούν το κυπριακό φυσικό αέριο, εφόσον ολοκληρωθούν επιτυχώς οι σχετικές διαβουλεύσεις που βρίσκονται σε εξέλιξη, μεταξύ των δύο χωρών και των εμπλεκόμενων εταιρειών. Τα δυο αιγυπτιακά τερματικά είναι συνολικής δυνατότητας 610 bcf (δισεκατομμυρίων κυβικών ποδών) ετησίως, ή 12,7 εκατομμυρίων τόνων τον χρόνο. Το ένα τερματικό βρίσκεται στην Νταμιέτα και το δεύτερο στο Ιντκού. Και τα δύο ξεκίνησαν με τις καλύτερες προοπτικές, ωστόσο σήμερα αντιμετωπίζουν σοβαρότατα προβλήματα εξαιτίας της έλλειψης επαρκών ποσοτήτων φυσικού αερίου. Για την ακρίβεια, αυτό της Νταμιέτα βρίσκεται εκτός λειτουργίας, ενώ αυτό του Ιντκού υπολειτουργεί με μικρές ποσότητες φυσικού αερίου.

Εκτός λειτουργίας το «Νταμιέτα»

Το τερματικό της Νταμιέτα, που βρίσκεται 60 χιλιόμετρα δυτικά του Πορτ Σάιντ, ήταν το πρώτο που κατασκευάστηκε στην Αίγυπτο με στόχο να εξυπηρετήσει τις ανάγκες της ευρωπαϊκής αγοράς. Πρόκειται για ένα έργο που κόστισε 1,3 δισεκατομμύρια δολάρια, δημιουργήθηκε με τις μεγαλύτερες προοπτικές και σήμερα έχει φτάσει να έχει σοβαρότατο πρόβλημα βιωσιμότητας, εξαιτίας της έλλειψης αποθεμάτων φυσικού αερίου. Βρίσκεται εκτός λειτουργίας από τα μέσα του 2013, καθώς οι λιγοστές ποσότητες αερίου που διέθετε εκείνη την περίοδο κάλυψαν αποκλειστικά τις εσωτερικές ανάγκες του Καΐρου. Ο χρόνος και οι συνθήκες επαναλειτουργίας του παραμένουν άγνωστα.
