ExxonMobil to reportedly announce large discovery in Cyprus' plot 10 next week - KATHIMERINI

American energy giant ExxonMobil is expected to announce a discovery of a large gas reserve in plot 10 of Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) next week, according to Cyprus' Sigma Live news network.

The Cypriot station referred to a report by Italy's Agenzia Nova that cited a high-level Cypriot source at the the Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS) in Cairo which ended on Wednesday.

The source, which reportedly spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the reserve isn't as large as the Zohr gas field in the Egyptian sector of the Mediterranean Sea but “has a similar reserve.”

The Stena Icemax drill which has relocated to the Glaucus-1 Target will return in about a month to carry out additional drillings at Delphyne-1 in order to confirm the find's size and announce results.

Exploratory drilling is set to take place in block 11 of Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the first two weeks of July, a top Total official said, on Thursday.

Eleanor Rowley, Total’s VP of Exploration, MENA region, was addressing a ceremony, at the Presidential Palace, during which the contracts for exploration and production sharing for blocks 6 and 8 within Cyprus’ EEZ were signed.

“I’m happy to say that this will be the first test of the Zohr play in Cypriot waters. So we are very excited to operate this well along with our partners ENI,” she said.

Cyprus Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis said today that “Cyprus’ number one priority is to further deepen and expand exploration activities, in order to identify the natural gas resources that lie in the country’s exclusive economic zone.”

Addressing a Nicosia-based Summit organised by The Economist, Lakkotrypis referred to opportunities for further gas discoveries in the area, saying they amount to 2,000bcm (billion cubic metres). In comparison, “Europe consumed 430bcm last year,” he added.

The Energy Minister also referred to the Zhor reservoir discovery by ENI, off Egypt’s coast, noting that “it marked the potential and possibilities existing for Cyprus and the region.”

He also added that “Israel is launching another licensing round this month.”

French energy heavyweight TOTAL said on Thursday that block 11 in the Cypriot EEZ, which is adjacent to the Egyptian giant gas field Zhor, contains geologic structures which could carry natural gas.

Total signed today a contract with EDT Agency Services Ltd, a subsidiary of the EDT Offshore Group, a contract for Onshore Logistics Base Services in the Limassol port, paving the way for the commencement of exploratory drilling in block 11 in 2017. The ceremony took place in the presence of Ministers of Energy and Transport Yiorgos Lakkotrypis and Marios Demetriades respectively.

Egypt’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Sameh Shoukry, told Independent Balkan News Agency on Sunday that the tripartite with Greece and Cyprus shows that the two countries “value security and understand the potential dangers for instability in Egypt.”

Shoukry was speaking after Cyprus and Egypt signed a landmark deal to transport natural gas from Cyprus’ EEZ to Egypt on August 31.

Egypt is also due to host the third summit between the three countries next month to discuss other projects agreed upon during the past two summits in Greece and Cyprus.

Cyprus’ Energy Minister and the heads of Noble, Shell, and Delek have agreed that the best method of exploiting the natural gas cooperation in the ‘Aphrodite’ field in the island’s exclusive economic zone needs to be found, after a meeting on Thursday.

Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis said after a meeting the three CEOs had with the President and himself that block 12, where ‘Aphrodite’ is located, had been discussed and the new face of the consortium after BG was bought out by Shell.

Lakkotrypis has mentioned that this visit was the first time that the CEO and the President have met.

Turkey warns companies not to explore in Cyprus' block 6 - SIGMA LIVE

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry has warned energy companies signing agreements for exploration and drilling in Cyprus’ block 6, saying that they will not allow exploration in “their exclusive economic zone.”

In statements made to Milliyet newspaper, the Ministry’s spokesperson Tanju Bilgic said: “The unauthorised hydrocarbon exploration and extraction activities by foreign companies in our maritime jurisdiction is not possible.”

He added that the location of block 6 is an important part of Turkey’s continental shelf, as was stated in a statement in March.

Greece has awarded concessions to Hellenic Petroleum and Energean Oil & Gas for onshore gas exploration and exploitation in three fields in the west of the country, Energy Ministry Panos Skourletis said on Thursday.

Hellenic Petroleum, Greece's biggest oil refiner, won two of the concessions and the country's sole oil producer Energean Oil & Gas one, the ministry said in a statement.

In a separate statement, Hellenic Petroleum said that it was willing to team up with other oil companies in the gas drilling business.

"We start independently but we are open to cooperations and proposals that will be based on and respect the business rules of the world industry," its CEO Grigoris Stergioulis said.

Agriculture Minister Nicos Kouyialis met with his counterparts in Egypt, on Tuesday, in the framework of promoting the trilateral cooperation between Cyprus, Egypt and Greece.

In particular Kouyialis had bilateral meetings with Egyptian Minister of Environment Khaled Fahmy and Egyptian Minister of Provisions and Internal Trade Khaled Hanafy, an official press release says.

During his meeting with the Environment Minister of Egypt the two men discussed ways to promote and enhance cooperation in the areas of managing solid domestic waste, protecting the Mediterranean maritime environment from the dangers of hydrocarbons’ exploration and the transition to a low-greenhouse gas emissions economy, the press release notes.

They agreed to cooperate in order to deal with the impact brought about by climate change, to exchange experience and know-how on the managing of solid house waste, and to promote the signature of an Agreement for the protection of the Mediterranean Sea’s maritime environment, the statement adds.

During his bilateral meeting with Hanafy, Kouyialis had the opportunity to discuss matters concerning the production, provision and facilitating trade of agricultural products, with particular reference to halloumi, fish, olive and potato produce, the press release continues.

The two Ministers agreed to make the most of the comparative advantages of the two countries and to promote cooperation in the manufacturing sector and the export of agricultural products.

Lakkotrypis: Interim Solution to be decided on in 2016 | Sigma Live

At the beginning of the year the government will decided on the interim solution for natural gas, Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis said in an interview with the newspaper “Alitheia”.

On the basis of the facts, he said, there will be an agreement with the company VITOL, who will be using the natural gas from the “Aphrodite” field by 2020.  Lakkotrypis added that the interim solution had always been a difficult situation, because of the small amount that the Cypriot market would need.

He added that the attempt to reach a solution in one way or another will be reached by the beginning of 2016.

Lakkotrypis said that large companies are interested in acquiring Cyprus’ seismological data.  He said that the Cabinet will submit on Sunday a proposal to extend the research period of blocks 2, 3, and 9 for another two years, as Italian Gas Company ENI had asked.

On the French company TOTAL, Lakkotrypis said that there are goals to develop block 11.

Lakkotrypis finished by saying that there is intense interest by companies for the new round of licensing, and that there is also interest from existing companies that already have seismological data.

Cyprus and Jordan announced on Tuesday the activation of technical committees to discuss the details of a possible cooperation in the gas sector.

The announcement was made at a meeting Cypriot Minister of EnergyYiorgos Lakkotrypis had with his Jordanian counterpart Ibrahim Saif, following Lakkotrypis' visit to Jordan in September 2014 and Cypriot President`s NicosAnastasiades visit to Amman in November.

After the meeting Saif said that he regards Cyprus as a strategic partner in terms of the potential cooperation in the energy sector and did not rule out the next meeting at Ministerial level to be tripartite between Jordan, Greece and Cyprus or even quadrilateral with the addition of Egypt.

"Based on the memorandum signed in 2014 during my visit to Jordan, we agreed to activate the technical groups to discuss the technical details of a possible cooperation in the gas sector", said Lakkotrypis in joint statements with Saif.

Through this effort, he explained, “we want to explore the necessary infrastructure, what is there, what is needed, whether it relates to underwater pipelines or concerns liquefied natural gas, which Jordan currently imports to serve its own needs.”

He said the two countries will continue to work, in order to deepen and broaden their relations in both commercial, technical and economic level.

In his statements, Saif said that energy was one of the main sectors that the two countries could establish long-term relations.

“About 97% of the energy needs in Jordan is imported and we regard Cyprus as a strategic partner in terms of the potential cooperation between both countries”, he pointed out.

Saying that technical groups between the two countries will sit at the same table and examine "the same map," Saif referred to the developing gas network in the region and the place of his country in that network.
“Definitely we are looking at how we can utilise better the existing infrastructure and the existing routes of the potential infrastructure, so we can work together. Not only are we talking about short term cooperation, we are really here to explore long-term cooperation, we want to maximize and utilize to the maximum possible the infrastructure that exists now but also the infrastructure that could be built in the near future”, he added.

Asked whether they discussed the possibility of a bilateral or trilateral mechanism between Cyprus, Jordan and Greece or with Egypt, Saif said indeed it was at the heart of the discussions. As he said, they have discussed the possibility of a trilateral or a quadrilateral ministerial meeting where Egypt, Greece, Jordan and Cyprus could discuss potential cooperation at that level.

According to reliable sources, Jordan wants to import gas from Cyprus. The country currently covers its energy needs by buying liquefied natural gas from “Shell”, since the import of natural gas from Egypt via Sinai was interrupted by terrorist acts. A collaboration between Cyprus and Jordan may involve transfer of the Cypriot gas to Egypt and from there to Jordan. The Ministers have studied two options, either via pipeline or by the method of liquefied natural gas.

Energy minister, Cypriot counterpart discuss cooperation

Nicosia, Dec. 23 (Petra) -- Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ibrahim Saif, and the Cypriot Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, on Wednesday, discussed cooperation in the fields of natural gas and renewable energy.

During a meeting held in the Cypriot capital Nicosia, both sides reviewed the Jordanian-Cypriot cooperation to benefit from the Cypriot natural gas production.

Saif was briefed on the Cypriot plans to export natural gas discovered in the Aphrodite gas field. He also discussed with the Cypriot minister ways to establish a network for natural gas in the region.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two countries in 2014 to exchange expertise in the field of energy, hydrocarbon exploration, infrastructure in addition to exporting Cypriot natural gas to Jordan.

Η απόφαση της αιγυπτιακής κυβέρνησης να παγώσει τις

διαπραγματεύσεις έλευσης φυσικού αερίου από το Ισραήλ προς την Αίγυπτο δεν επηρεάζει την Κύπρο, δήλωσε ο Υπουργός Ενέργειας, Γιώργος Λακκοτρύπης.

Σύμφωνα με τα όσα μεταδίδονται, η Κυβέρνηση της Αιγύπτου αποφάσισε χθες το απόγευμα να διακόψει τις συνομιλίες με το Ισραήλ για αγορά φυσικού αερίου.

Ο Γιώργος Λακκοτρύπης είπε ότι δεν θα υπεισέλθει στις διαφορές των δύο χωρών, διότι είναι κάτι που αφορά τις ίδιες και όχι την Κύπρο.

Soon Total is expected to formalize its request to extend the lease of Block 11 beyond Feabruary 2016, when the current lease expires. Assurances for this intent were given to Cyprus Energy Minister during recent meetings in Paris. 

This is the outcome of further assessment of Block 11 seismic and geological data during this year, following Total’s decision to relinquish the lease of Block 10 and to re-evaluate Block 11 and the area round it, especially in areas adjacent to mount Eratosthenes.

Total has also been re-evaluating their geophysical models in view of the discovery of Zhor only about 6km away from the boundary of Block 11. It is understood that Total may have now identified new targets to drill, which will be a requirement for such a renewal of the lease to be granted.

Another strong incentive behind this new-found interest in Block 11 is the discovery of Zhor itself and the probability that it may extend into Block 11. ENI has stated that the Zhor gas reservoir lies entirely in Egyptian waters, but there is a small probability that a small part of it may extend into Block 11. 

In addition, there are indications, with low but reasonable geological probability, that oil may exist deeper than the Zhor gas reservoir, with higher likelihood that this may extend well into Block 11.

With such good indications of possible hydrocarbons in the area, Total may now regret relinquishing the rights to Block 10 prematurely.

The prospect of Total staying and actually carrying out more drilling is of course to be welcomed. It is only through additional drilling that Cyprus can discover whether the good prospects for larger quantities of gas than discovered so far are real.

Ever since the announcement of the discovery of Zhor by ENI fever has been rising in Cyprus, with the inevitable build-up of expectations.

I spent the last four days participating in high level meetings with ministries in Berlin and the European Commission in Brussels. There the tone is different and references to the East Med are measured and non-committal.

Eni's CEO Descalzi was also in Brussels this week expounding his very ambitious plans for Egypt and a major hub for gas exports. Commissioner Canete responded to this with enthusiasm mostly because he is desperate to show that there are other sources of gas to Europe than Russian gas. But most others in the EU are more sober and measured.

And for a good reason. Gazprom has just lowered its gas prices to $6.2 per mmBTU as oil-indexation kicked-in. It is difficult for most other suppliers to match such a price. And the EU made it clear that even though they set up political priorities and guidelines, they leave it to commercial companies to decide where to invest, where to get their gas, how to generate energy and which projects and areas to invest in.  These companies base their decisions mostly on commercial factors and risk.

To take gas from Cyprus to Egypt it will cost at least $6-7 per mmBTU and then you need to add liquefaction, transportation to Europe and re-gasification costs. Allowing for profits the total cost could be more than $12 per mmBTU. How does that compare with Gazprom's prices.

That is one of the reasons that major European companies teamed up with Gazprom, and have now signed agreements, to build Nord Stream 2 to carry 55 bcm of gas to Germany, despite Mr Canete's lack of support. Needless to say that the project has the tacit support of Germany.

When asked in Brussels, ENI sources said there are no indications that Zhor extends into Cyprus' EEZ, but next year's appraisal drilling will show. Yet, in Cyprus expectations are building up.

Europe has plenty of gas and projections are that future needs will at best remain stagnant. They want diversification and prefer to avoid excessive dependence on Russia. But note that the operative word is 'excessive'. Western Europe consider Russia a reliable and dependable partner.

In this context there is a lot of political support for the Southern Gas Corridor. They urge the East Med to consider this as a strong option for sending its gas to Europe, realizing of course that this pre-supposes solution of Cyprob. But not at any price and at any time - both are limited. East Med gas must first find buyers, competing with current gas prices in Europe. And it is important to note that the limited demand for gas in Europe will not be there for long. Other suppliers are ahead of the East Med.

The drive in Europe is renewables - not gas. We need to recognize the above and divert our attention on how best to utilize our limited opportunities.

The French giant Total natural gas requests a meeting as soon as possible with Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis following Eni's discovery of a natural gas field offshore Egypt. 

The French colossus which owns block 11 in the Cypriot EEZ is only 3 nautical miles far from Egupt’s Zohr gas field.

 

Total completed last April geophysical and geochemical surveys on block 11 and is expected to announce the results and deliver them to Cyprus in mid-October.

Ουσιαστικό περιεχόμενο φαίνεται να είχαν οι προαγγελίες κυβερνητικών στελεχών την περασμένη βδομάδα (όταν υπογραφόταν η νέα συμφωνία με την ΤΟΤΑΛ) για πολύ σημαντικές ανακοινώσεις σε ενεργειακό επίπεδο, τις επόμενες μέρες.

Έγκυρες και διασταυρωμένες πληροφορίες του Σίγμα αναφέρουν ότι η Ιταλοκορεατική κοινοπραξία ΕΝΙ ΚΟΓΚΑΣ έχει εντοπίσει κοίτασμα φυσικού αερίου στον γεωτρητικό στόχο Αμαθούσα στο οικόπεδο 9 της ΑΟΖ της ΚΔ. 

Πάντως, είναι πολύ νωρίς να γίνει λόγος για αριθμούς και ποσότητες καθώς, όπως αρμοδίως πληροφορούμαστε, λόγω των πολλών στρωμάτων γίνεται ανάλυση των δεδομένων με στόχο την κατάληξη σε μια ασφαλή πρόβλεψη. Θυμίζω εδώ δηλώσεις τεχνοκρατικών παραγόντων προ μηνός ότι η Αμαθούσα μπορεί να κρύβει μέχρι τρία τρις κυβικά πόδια Φ.Α. 

Πρόκειται για μια πολύ θετική εξέλιξη, η οποία προκαλεί αισθήματα ικανοποίησης αλλά και ανακούφισης στην κυβέρνηση που βλέπει τις προοπτικές στο ενεργειακό πεδίο, όχι μόνον να μην καταρρέουν αλλά αντίθετα να ενισχύονται. Όλα θα επιβεβαιωθούν την ερχόμενη Πέμπτη. Ο Υπουργός Ενέργειας Γιώργος Λακκοτρύπης, έχει από χθες βράδυ τα αποτελέσματα της γεώτρησης και μεθαύριο θα ενημερώσει επίσημα το Υπουργικό Συμβούλιο. Αμέσως μετά θα ενημερώσει εκπροσώπους των κοινοβουλευτικών κομμάτων και θα κλείσει τις δραστηριότητες του με την επίσημη ανακοίνωση προς τον Κυπριακό λαό.

Σύμφωνα με επίσημη πληροφόρηση, σε περίπτωση εντοπισμού κοιτάσματος η ΕΝΙ έχει υποχρέωση, μετά το τεχνικό τρίμηνο διάλειμμα για σκοπούς συντήρησης του γεωτρητικού πλοίου, να επιστρέψει στην Αμαθούσα για επιβεβαιωτική γεώτρηση. 

Στην εξίσωση μπαίνει και το θέμα των απευθείας συνομιλιών για το Κυπριακό, που επαναρχίζουν, όπως όλα δείχνουν, τον ερχόμενο Μάιο. 

Το ερώτημα είναι κατά πόσο οι προγραμματισμένες ενέργειες θα επηρεάσουν τον όποιο σχεδιασμό. Υπενθυμίζεται ότι ο Ε. Μ. Άιντα έθεσε στη ζυγαριά όχι μόνο την navtex και το Barbaros, αλλά και την ολοκλήρωση των γεωτρητικών εργασιών. 

Άρα είναι κάτι φανεί στην πορεία και το οποίο θα έχει το δικό του ενδιαφέρον, δεδομένου βέβαια ότι την ερχόμενη Πέμπτη θα επιβεβαιωθεί η ύπαρξη του κοιτάσματος.

   

Πάντως ο λεγόμενος «υπεξ» Οζντίλ Ναμί σε συνέντευξη του έκανε λόγο για «υπερβολές των ε/κ» σε σχέση με τα προσδοκώμενα έσοδα και ζήτησε λόγο και ρόλο των Τ/κ όχι μόνο στα έσοδα, αλλά και στις συμφωνίες με εταιρείες για τα ερευνητικά προγράμματα.

Η Κύπρος μπορεί ν` αποτελέσει εναλλακτική πηγή τροφοδοσίας φυσικού αερίου για την Ευρώπη και αυτή τη στιγμή προάγουμε την πιθανότητα δημιουργίας ενός αγωγού φυσικού αερίου από την ανατολική Μεσόγειο προς την ηπειρωτική Ευρώπη, δήλωσε χθες βράδυ ο Υπουργός Ενέργειας Γιώργος Λακκοτρύπης, μιλώντας σε εκδήλωση  που οργάνωσε η ΕΔΕΚ στη Λεμεσό με θέμα  «Κυπριακό Φυσικό Αέριο –Ένας χρόνος μετά το άναμμα της φλόγας».

Όπως είπε ο κ.Λακκοτρύπης, το ενδεχόμενο ενός τέτοιου αγωγού, που συζήτησε και με τον Έλληνα ομόλογο του, θα τεθεί τον Δεκέμβριο ενώπιον του Αντιπροέδρου της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής, "ενώ αυτή τη στιγμή ζητάμε από την Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή να μας χρηματοδοτήσει κάποιες μελέτες, αφού για να επέλθει αργότερα μια ενδεχόμενη χρηματοδότηση του έργου, θα πρέπει από τώρα να είναι στη λίστα των έργων κοινού ενδιαφέροντος".

Σίγουρα, συνέχισε, τα μεγέθη του φυσικού αερίου που έχουμε σήμερα δεν κάνουν ιδιαίτερη εντύπωση για τις ανάγκες της Ευρώπης, αλλά δυνητικά πιθανά θετικά αποτελέσματα από τα ανατολικά τεμάχια θα αυξήσουν και την επιρροή της χώρας μας, "μια επιρροή που ενδεχομένως να είναι δυσανάλογα μεγαλύτερη από το γεωγραφικό ή πληθυσμιακό μας μέγεθος".

"Ένα δεύτερο έργο κοινού ενδιαφέροντος, είναι η αποθήκευση υγροποιημένου φυσικού αερίου στην Κύπρο, στο πλαίσιο ενός χερσαίου σταθμού υγροποίησης φυσικού αερίου", ανέφερε ο Γιώργος Λακκοτρύπης, προσθέτοντας ότι όλες οι επιλογές βρίσκονται στο τραπέζι και σίγουρα η δημιουργία ενός χερσαίου τερματικού, θα προσδώσει αξία στα κοιτάσματα μας, εφόσον είναι συμφέρουσα επιλογή, "αλλά πάντοτε ο πρώτος στόχος μας είναι οι υδρογονάνθρακες, όπου είναι και τα κέρδη μας".

Κοιτάζουμε, συνέχισε, όλες τις επιλογές και συνεργαζόμαστε με όλες τις χώρες πλην της Τουρκίας, τονίζοντας την ίδια ώρα πως αυτό δεν σημαίνει ότι δημιουργούμε ένα αντιτουρκικό μπλοκ, αλλά "προσπαθούμε να έχουμε εξαιρετικές σχέσεις με όλους τους γείτονες για να προσελκύσουμε τις επενδύσεις που χρειάζονται".

Αναφερόμενος στις συζητήσεις με την Αίγυπτο για μεταφορά φυσικού αερίου από το κοίτασμα Αφροδίτη, ο Υπουργός Ενέργειας είπε πως αποτελεί την πιο γρήγορη λύση για έσοδα προς την Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία, τα οποία θα ανέρχονται σε αρκετά δισεκατομμύρια ευρώ.

Υπέδειξε ακόμη πως η λύση αυτή εξυπηρετεί και τα συμφέροντα της ΕΕ, αφού τα δυο τερματικά υγροποίησης στην Αίγυπτο που βρίσκονται σχεδόν σε αδράνεια, τα διαχειρίζονται τρεις εταιρείες ευρωπαϊκών συμφερόντων.

Ο Γιώργος Λακκοτρύπης επανέλαβε τη σημασία που θα έχει ένα θετικό αποτέλεσμα από τις έρευνες της κοινοπραξίας ENI/KOGAS στο κοίτασμα Ονασαγόρας, το οποίο θα ανακοινωθεί τον επόμενο μήνα.

Από την πλευρά του, ο  Σύμβουλος του Πρωθυπουργού της Ελλάδας για θέματα Ενέργειας, Σόλων Κασίνης εξέφρασε την αισιοδοξία ότι συνολικά στη Κυπριακή ΑΟΖ υπάρχουν πέραν των 60 τρισεκατομμυρίων κυβικών ποδών φυσικού αερίου, υποδεικνύοντας πως όλες μαζί  οι χώρες της Ευρώπης διαθέτουν 64,4 τρις.

" Οι μέχρι σήμερα ανακαλύψεις μεγάλων κοιτασμάτων φυσικού αερίου στο Ισραήλ και την Κύπρο επιβεβαιώνουν ως ένα βαθμό τις μεγάλες προοπτικές που υπάρχουν για νέα κοιτάσματα υδρογονανθράκων", ανέφερε και πρόσθεσε ότι τον αμέσως επόμενο χρόνο, με την υλοποίηση των ερευνητικών προγραμμάτων των αδειούχων εταιρειών στην Κύπρο, θα πρέπει να αναμένουμε να δούμε σαφώς περισσότερες ανακαλύψεις κοιτασμάτων.

Είπε, ακόμη, πως παράλληλα με την δεύτερη επιβεβαιωτική γεώτρηση στο κοίτασμα Αφροδίτη, μέχρι τα τέλη του 2015 η Noble Energy θα προχωρήσει σε ερευνητική γεώτρηση σε νέα "ενδιαφέρουσα" γεωλογική δομή στο τεμάχιο 12, ενώ μέχρι τις αρχές του 2016 η Total θα προχωρήσει σε ανόρυξη δύο ερευνητικών γεωτρήσεων στα τεμάχια 10 και 11.

Μέχρι τα τέλη του 2015, πρόσθεσε, η κοινοπραξία ENI/KOGAS αναμένεται επίσης να ολοκληρώσει τις 4 ερευνητικές γεωτρήσεις της στα τεμάχια 2,3 και 9 και ανάλογα των αποτελεσμάτων να προχωρήσει και σε περισσότερες.

Στην παρουσίαση του, ο κ.Κασίνης αναφέρθηκε στο ιστορικό των συμφωνιών και των ερευνητικών δραστηριοτήτων που έγιναν για τους κυπριακούς υδρογονάνθρακες.

Χαιρετισμό στην εκδήλωση απηύθυνε ο Πρόεδρος της ΕΔΕΚ Γιαννάκης Ομήρου, ο οποίος ανέφερε ότι η εξεύρεση κοιτασμάτων υδρογονανθράκων και πιθανώς πετρελαίου στην Αποκλειστική Οικονομική Ζώνη της Κύπρου, αποτελεί μια ελπίδα των τωρινών και μελλοντικών γενεών, αφού πέραν των σημαντικών οικονομικών εσόδων που θα έχει η χώρα μας, ενισχύει τη γεωστρατηγική  γεωπολιτική και γεωοικονομική μας θέση.

Ένα χρόνο μετά το άναμμα της φλόγας στην εξέδρα της Noble, τόνισε, είναι επιτακτική ανάγκη να διασαφηνιστεί ο σχεδιασμός που θα ακολουθηθεί, δηλαδή αν θα προχωρήσουμε με τη δημιουργία τερματικού υγροποίησης ή μεταφορά του αερίου μέσω αγωγών.

Τα αποτελέσματα της γεώτρησης της κοινοπραξίας ΕΝΙ/KOGAS, είπε ο Γιαννάκης Ομήρου, αναμένεται να δώσουν τη δυνατότητα λήψης τελεσίδικων αποφάσεων για το τερματικό υγροποίησης, εφόσον καταστεί δυνατόν να είναι πλήρως οικονομικά βιώσιμο και να τροχοδρομήσουν την προπώληση των επιβεβαιωμένων πλέον αποθεμάτων φυσικού αερίου.

Θέση της ΕΔΕΚ, σημείωσε, είναι ότι το τερματικό υγροποίησης πρέπει να γίνει εφόσον δίνει τη δυνατότητα εξαγωγής φυσικού αερίου, πέραν των γειτονικών χωρών και της Ευρώπης, σε χώρες της Άπω Ανατολής, όπου παραδοσιακά οι ανάγκες είναι μεγάλες και οι τιμές αυξημένες.

Υποδεικνύοντας δε τη σημασία της συμφωνίας Κύπρου, Ελλάδας και Αιγύπτου για συνεκμετάλλευση του φυσικού αερίου, ο Πρόεδρος της ΕΔΕΚ δήλωσε πως σημαντική προτεραιότητα θα πρέπει να είναι η συνομολόγηση συμφωνιών και με άλλες γειτονικές χώρες.

Ο κ.Ομήρου υπενθύμισε δε την πρόταση της ΕΔΕΚ για θεσμοθέτηση θεσμοθέτηση Εθνικού Συμβουλίου Ενεργειακής Πολιτικής (ΕΣΕΠ), στο οποίο να συμμετέχουν όλες οι πολιτικές δυνάμεις,  κατά το πρότυπο του Εθνικού Συμβουλίου, το οποίο να έχει συμβουλευτικό ρόλο για τον εκάστοτε Πρόεδρο της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της εκδήλωσης, οι παρευρισκόμενοι είχαν την ευκαιρία να θέσουν ερωτήματα προς τους ομιλητές και να εκφράσουν τις απόψεις τους γύρω από το θέμα διαχείρισης των κυπριακών υδρογονανθράκων.

Τεχνοοικονομική μελέτη για τον αγωγό 'Αφροδίτη' - Αίγυπτος | SIGMA LIVE

Τεχνοοικονομική μελέτη, η οποία θα καταδείξει τα τεχνικά χαρακτηριστικά του υποθαλάσσιου αγωγού από το οικόπεδο Αφροδίτη σε τερματικό στην Αίγυπτο θα πραγματοποιήσουν ειδικοί τεχνοκράτες.

Μιλώντας στις Τομές στα Γεγονότα ο Στέλιος Νικολαϊδης, Αναπληρωτής Διευθυντής της Υπηρεσίας Υδρογονανθράκων, ανέφερε ότι μετά την πολιτική βούληση για την κατασκευή του εν λόγω αγωγού, η οποία εκφράστηκε από τους υπουργούς ενέργειας των δυο χωρών, θα ακολουθήσει η έρευνα αυτή, από την οποία θα διαφανεί και η οικονομική του βιωσιμότητα.
