Cheaper Natural Gas From July 1 - NOVINITE

Natural gas has been cheaper starting from July 1. This is decided by the Commission for Energy and Water Regulation. The price of the blue fuel will drop by 0.6%.

The gas price approved by the Commission for the third quarter amounts to BGN 44.90 / MWh (excluding access, transmission, excise and VAT), which represents a decrease of 0.27 BGN / MWh or 0.60% compared to the current price for the second quarter of 2019.

At the approved gas price of BGN 44.90 / MWh, the "gas price at the entrance of the gas transmission grid" is included in the amount of BGN 43.97 / MWh, the "public supply" to 0.80 BGN / MWh.

During the approval of the price of natural gas KEVR takes into account the conditions under the current contract between Bulgargaz EAD and OAO Gazprom Export, the changes in the USD exchange rate against the BGN, the calorific value and the quantities of natural gas for the respective quarter.

The southern gas corridor is at the heart of diversification not only for Bulgaria but also for the whole of Europe, Energy Minister Temenujka Petkova told Darik. The role of Bulgaria is key via the connector with Greece, because new gas supplies will be provided from the Caspian region, she explained.

This will give a new look and will diversify the sources of natural gas for our country, Minister Petkova said.

The connector with Greece must be ready in 2020 and put into operation, the energy minister announced.

The Greece - Bulgaria Interconnector is important for both our country and Europe, and we have negotiated 1 billion cubic meters of gas from the Caspian region, Temenujka Petkova said.

17 billion gas passes through our country from Russia to different countries, of which 14 billion are for Turkey. Following the construction of the direct link between Russia and Turkey, Ankara will receive gas directly from Russia, she described the situation at the moment.

Greece-Bulgaria Gas Interconnector Construction Should Start within 2-3 Months - NOVINITE

The construction of the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector should start within 2-3 months, Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova told MPs in response to a question about gas supplies from Azerbaijan, Focus News Agencyreports. She said that building necessary infrastructure and concluding supply contracts were prerequisites for gas diversification. “In September Bulgargaz and Azerbaijani company Socar signed a contract for 1 billion cu m of gas. It is directly linked to two projects – the Southern Gas Corridor with the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector as an integral part. That 1 billion cu m is equal to 1/3 of our natural gas consumption. We can now talk about real diversification and a competitive environment,” Petkova said. She expects the procurement procedures for pipe supplier, engineering consultant and builder for the interconnector to be completed within a few days. The project is scheduled for completion in 2020.

Italy’s Saipem, a consortium including Azeri state firm SOCAR and nine other groups or firms have submitted initial bids to build a gas pipeline between Bulgaria and Greece, the company overseeing delivery of the project said.

ICGB launched a tender in April for design, procurement and construction of the 182-km (113-mile) pipeline that is estimated to cost 145 million euros (8 million). The contract winner will have 18 months to complete the project.

Other firms which have filed initial bids also include Italy’s Sicim, Greek company J&P Avax, Turkey’s Fernas, a group including Sicilsaldo, Nuova Ghizzoni and Inrakat, and a consortium of Germany’s Max Streicher and Greece’s Terna.

ICGB will draw up a shortlist of final bidders.

Sofia plans to use the pipeline to receive one billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas per year from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz 2 gas field after 2020, ending its almost complete reliance on Russian gas supplies.

During the meeting with his Cypriot counterpart Nicos Anastasiades on Monday, Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev said that Cyprus can contribute to the energy diversification of the countries from Southeastern Europe.

Anastasiades is on a two-day official visit to Bulgaria on Monday and Tuesday at the invitation of Plevneliev.

Speaking at a joint press conference after their meeting on Monday, the two presidents called on the EU to provide support in constructing energy infrastructure in Southeastern Europe, which will increase the energy security of the countries from the region.
