Egypt inks $15bln oil, gas deals in six years - ZAWYA / MUBASHER

Cairo – Egypt signed 86 agreements worth $15 billion with major oil and gas companies over the last six years, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El-Molla, revealed.

Total petroleum investments reached about $76bln in six years.

From 2014 to 2020, total petroleum investments reached about EGP 1.2 trillion, thanks to the reforms conducted in the oil and gas sectors, El-Molla added in a statement on Wednesday.

In 2019, Chevron and ExxonMobil signed deals in Egypt, bringing the total number of companies operating in the oil and gas exploration and production sector in the country to more than 60 in 164 concession areas.

El-Molla further revealed that the country signed 14 new petroleum agreements from March until October.

State-owned EGAS expects to sign seven new gas exploration agreements with international companies worth at least USD 712 mn during 4Q2019, Chairman Osama El Bakly said, according to a ministry statement. 

Companies will drill 23 exploratory wells under the terms of the agreement, he said, without naming the concessions or companies involved. 

El Bakly also said that Egypt’s natural gas production hit a record 7.2 bcf/d in September, up from 7 bcf/d at the end of June.

CAIRO – "The Egyptian government approved in its Thursday meeting four new oil and gas exploration agreements worth $230 million," Minister of Petroleum Tarek el-Molla announced.

Two of the four agreements are related to the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) for exploration in the Red Sea and Western Desert areas, while the other two are related to South Valley Petroleum Holding Company (Ganope).

"The agreements include drilling 17 new wells," Molla added in a cabinet press conference.

EGPC chairman Abed Ezz el-Regal announced in September that EGPC will hold a new auction for oil and gas exploration before the end of 2017.

In August, Molla signed three new oil and gas exploration agreements in the Western Desert with a total value of $81.4 million in investments.

The agreements were signed between the EGPC, Royal Dutch Shell and Apex to drill 16 new wells using $23.2 million.

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egyptian Oil Minister Tarek El Molla has signed three oil and gas exploration deals for 16 new fields in the Western Desert worth at least $81.4 million in total with Royal Dutch Shell and the U.S.-based Apex International Energy.

The Petroleum Ministry said in a statement that the first deal would see Shell invest $35.5 million, and the other two would see Apex, which is operating in Egypt for the first time, invest a combined $45.9 million on two projects.

CAIRO Aug 10 (Reuters) - Egypt's government has approved five oil and gas drilling and exploration agreements with foreign companies, Petroleum Minister Tarek El Molla said on Wednesday.

Once an energy exporter, Egypt has turned into a net importer because of declining oil and gas production and increasing consumption. It is trying to speed up production at recent discoveries to fill its energy gap as soon as possible.

Four of the deals are offshore Mediterranean gas exploration and drilling agreements between Egypt's state gas board EGAS and BP, Eni, Total, and Edison.

The fifth deal, which is an oil drilling deal in the Gulf of Suez, is between state petroleum board EGPC and local company Trident Petroleum.
