Energy minister George Lakkotrypis will kick off the Fourth Eastern Mediterranean Gas Conference (EMGC) on Tuesday during which a range of gas industry executive speakers will explore the region’s potential natural gas resources and the path to production.
The conference, run by Gulf Publishing Company, will be held in Nicosia on March 14-15. The conference is sponsored by Deloitte and Cyprus Hydrocarbons Company and is supported by Tiger Offshore, Petroleum Economist, World Oil, and Gas Processing.
Investment and activity in the region has shown a resurgence following Eni’s discovery of Zohr in 2015. Cyprus recently announced the results of its third Licensing Round with blocks approved to be awarded to energy majors Eni, Eni/Total, and ExxonMobil/Qatar Petroleum. Israel has announced that it plans to launch its first auction round for energy development rights to five offshore blocks for natural gas development.
With natural gas demand in the region exceeding supply, development of the region’s gas discoveries is crucial. Eni has fast-tracked the development of Zohr, and elsewhere in the region Noble and Delek are in the process of raising funds to develop the Leviathan and Greece’s Energean Oil & Gas is searching for a financial partner in its plans to develop the Tanin and Karish fields off the coast of Israel.
EMGC is the premier event for those interested in the opportunities the region presents. The conference brings together top executives, government officials, and regional experts involved in determining the natural gas policies of the Eastern Mediterranean for an in-depth discussion on the region’s latest developments, challenges and opportunities.

EMGC provides a special focus on the latest geopolitical, market and technology trends related to the exploration, drilling, production, processing and marketing of natural gas in the Eastern Mediterranean. Attendees will hear from eni SpA regarding their plans to develop the blocks they were recently awarded during Cyprus’ 3rd Licensing Round. Plus, Delek Drilling/Avner will discuss their ongoing plans in both the Tamar and Leviathan.
