Shell Completes Sale of Western Desert Assets in Egypt to Cheiron and Cairn - JOURNAL OF PETROLEUM TECHNOLOGY (JPT)

Royal Dutch Shell has completed the sale of its upstream assets in Egypt’s Western Desert to a consortium of independent E&P operators focused on revitalizing mature oil and gas fields, Cheiron Petroleum Corporation and Cairn Energy, both UK-based.

Having received final government and regulatory approvals completing the sale, Shell said it will focus its Egyptian business on the offshore, including the West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM), the Harmattan Deep Project, and exploration acreage in seven new blocks in the Nile Delta, West Mediterranean, and the Red Sea, according to a 24 September news release.

Shell’s midstream focus will remain on its Egyptian LNG joint venture; downstream the company still retains Shell Lubricants Egypt.

BTE2 Well Adds 25 mscf/d to Natural Gas Production - EGYPT OIL & GAS

Egypt’s BTE2 Well, which is operated by Royal Dutch Shell’s Joint Venture in Egypt, Badr El Din Petroleum Company (BAPETCO), has started production phase on January 7th, increasing the country’s natural gas output by 25 million standard cubic feet per day (mscf/d), which is planned to be increased to 50mscf/d after completing the drilling of BTE1 Well, Badr 3 Wells’ Manager, Anton Artes, told Al-Ahram Gate.

Vallourec has signed a contract with Badr El Din Petroleum Company (BAPETCO), a joint venture between Shell and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation.

Boulogne-Billancourt, 21 September 2017 - Vallourec has signed a contract with Badr El Din Petroleum Company (BAPETCO), a joint venture between Shell and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation. This agreement concerns the supply of tubular solutions (OCTG) for 60 to 70 gas wells of an onshore project in the Western Desert of Egypt.

Bapetco increases Obayed field production to 140k boepd - ENTERPRISE

Production from the Obayed natural gas field in the Western Desert increased to140k boepd the Oil Ministry told Al Masry Al Youm.

Natural gas production increased to 515 mcf/d and crude and condensates output to 47.4k b/d.

The Obayed field is operated by Royal Dutch Shell JV Bapetco.

The total natural gas production of Egypt's Badr El Din Petroleum Company- Bapetco is estimated at around 500 million cubic feet daily, Chairman Emad Hamdy stated Saturday.

Hamdy told Amwal Al Ghad that firm's production of natural gas covers massive part of local market's needs of natural gas.

Bapetco -the local partner of Royal Dutch Shell- raised the total production within the last three years from 98,000 barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) to 140,000 BOE.

Bapetco to Link BTE-2 Output to Gas Plant - EGYPT OIL & GAS

In a statement to Egypt Oil&Gas, Badr El Din Petroleum (Bapetco)’s CEO, Emad Hamdy, stated that the company is in talks with its foreign partner Royal Dutch Shell on linking production for a new discovery at North Alam El Shawish concession, BTE-2 well, to Badr-3 gas process facilities that is located 40km away from the well. Bapetco will use one of the pipelines near the new well to transport gas from BTE-2 to the facility, where it will be mixed with process gas to meet standards set forth by the Egyptian government.

BTE-2 well is expected to produce 40mcf/d of gas during its first phase. During the second phase, the company will drill 6 development wells, as well as build facilities to move gas to the proessing facility at Badr3 and increase the capacity of the carbon dioxide extracting unit to be able to treat the gas produced from BTE-2 which is expected to reach 150mcf/d.

BAPETCo Deployed Two New Rigs - EGYPT OIL & GAS

An official with Badr El Din Petroleum (BAPETCo) stated to Egypt Oil&Gas that the company has rented the services of two new 1,500-horespower rigs. This brings the total number of rigs employed by BAPETCo to four, in an attempt to execute the company’s extensive drilling strategy.

The rigs, originally owned by the Egyptian Drilling Company, cost BAPETCo $20,000 daily. The EDC-51 rig was deployed in the beginning of December 2016. It will be used to drill J-14/4 well. EDC-42 rig will also be used to drill SITRA-44 and it will start running in January 2017. The remaining rigs, EDC-52 and EDC-72, are used in the Yas-1 exploratory well and SITRA8-42 development well, respectively.

Egyptian Oil Ministry announced Monday that eight new wells started production since the beginning of the second half of 2016.

In its reports, the ministry stated that these wells, which are affiliated to different firms, added 517 million cubic feet of natural gas and 2,500 barrels of crude oil to Egypt's national production.

The new wells are located in concession areas joint between International Oil Companies (IOC) and Egyptian oil sector firms at the Mediterranean Sea, Nile Delta, and Western Desert.

The IOCs include Italy's Eni ,the foreign partner of Balaeim Petroleum Company- Petrobel, and Royal Dutch Shell - the foreign partner of Egypt's Badr El Din Petroleum Company - Bapetco.

Oil Ministry announces new natural gas discovery in Shell’s Alam El Shawish Western Desert concession - ENERGY EGYPT / ENTERPRISE PRESS

An Oil Ministry report on the Alam El Shawish field in the Western Desert suggests that the concession has a production capacity of 20 mcf/d and preliminary estimated reserves of 500 bcf, Al Masry Al Youm reported. The well is operated by Royal Dutch Shell JV Badr El Din Petroleum (Bapetco). Production is expected to rise to 60 mcf/d when drilling is completed.

The Oil Ministry report says the results have encouraged Shell to increase drilling rigs from two to four. Shell have agreed to drill nine discovery wells in 2017 that could be increased depending on seismic scans due in 1Q2017, the report adds. We had noted the discovery back in September, when Aidan Murphy, chairman and CEO of Shell Egypt, said then that it could be one of the biggest in the Western Desert.

Shell Finds Massive Pocket of Natural Gas in Western Egypt - LABORATORY EQUIPMENT

Royal Dutch Shell has discovered a big pocket of natural gas in the western deserts of Egypt.

The fuel source deep under the concession area of north Alam El-Shawish is estimated to contain about 500 billion cubic feet of gas or more, according to a corporate statement to Reuters.

The find could produce up to 15 percent of the overall production of Badr el-Din Petroleum, a company jointly operated by the state and Shell.

CAIRO, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Royal Dutch Shell announced on Wednesday new natural gas discoveries in a concession area of north Alam El-Shawish in Egypt's western desert.

The initial quantities discovered were estimated at about half a trillion cubic feet of gas with more possible reserves, Eden Murphy, chairman and CEO of Shell said in a statement.

The discovery could produce from 10 to 15 percent of the total production of Badr el-Din Petroleum company, which is a joint venture acting on behalf of the state-owned Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and Shell in production operations, Murphy added.

Badr El‐Din Petroleum Company (BAPETCo), a joint venture between the Egyptian Government and Shell, has recently boosted its oil production to around 137,000 barrels per day, its chairman announced Wednesday.

The production involves around 50,000 barrels of crude and condensates per day, chairman Emad Hamdy said.

Hamdy further added that BAPETCo's total natural gas production is estimated at 490 million cubic feet amid plans for increase in the coming period.

BAPETCo's wells are located in the Western Desert concession area, where Badr 3 is its flagship oil field.

Shell plans drilling of 33 wells in BAPETCO concessions in 2016/2017 - 4-TRADERS / ENERGY EGYPT

Dutch company Shell targets drilling 33 wells in its concession areas that are operated by Badr El Din Petroleum Company (BAPETCO) during the next fiscal year (FY).


The plan includes 19 wells to develop gas production, 10 wells to inject water into, and 4 wells to explore for gas.

A senior source in the petroleum sector told Daily News Egypt that Shell has reduced the number of wells to explore for gas in its concession areas to four wells in its plan for FY 2016/2017, compared to seven wells during the current FY 2015/2016.

Shell drilled 25 developmental wells, 7 exploratory wells in its concession areas through BAPETCO during the current FY, and tied the production upon completing the drilling process according to the approved plan, he explained.

Shell, Apache to complete gas production tests of Apollonia field in June - DAILY NEWS EGYPT

Dutch company Shell and American corporation Apache will complete the initial tests for producing gas from limestone layers in the Apollonia field in the Western Desert by the end of June.

A prominent source at the Ministry of Petroleum told Daily News Egypt that the two companies have a plan to drill 30 wells in the Western Desert after the initial production tests are completed.

He added that the limestone layers in the Western Desert contain natural gas and if the results of the tests are positive, new investment opportunities for producing natural gas in unconventional ways would be available.

Egypt’s average production of natural gas declined to 3.8bn cubic feet per day in 2016 from the rate of 4.4bn cubic feet per day in 2015.

A report published by the Ministry of Petroleum disclosed Egyptian gas fields’ average productivity in 2016, which has significantly decreased due to delays in plans to link gas fields to production sites managed by international companies.

The report pointed out that the Khalda Petroleum Company—a joint venture company between Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and Apache Corporation—produced an average 850m cubic feet of gas per day, compared to 851 in 2015. The Italian energy company Eni, operating in Egypt through its subsidiary Petrobel, produced an average of 800m cubic feet of gas per day, down from 978m last year.

Badr El Din Petroleum Company (Bapetco) General Assembly Meeting, chaired by Eng. Tarek El-Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, ratified the company’s amendment to the fiscal year 2015/2016 budget, and also ratified the budget for the fiscal year 2016/2017.

The meeting was held in the presence of Dr. Sherif Sousa, First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum for Gas Affairs, Eng. Mohamed Taher, First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum for Petroleum Affairs, Eng. Mohamed El-Masry, CEO of Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), Eng. Khaled Abdel Badie, Head of Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), Mr. Aidan Murphy, Chairman of Shell Egypt, Mr. Tom Maher, General Manager of Apache Egypt, as well as the Chairmans of French Engie and Chinese PetroChina.
