TransGlobe Energy Corporation Announces Operations Update - TRANSGLOBE

CALGARY, Alberta, April 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE)

TransGlobe Energy Corporation (TSX:TGL) (NASDAQ:TGA) (“TransGlobe” or the “Company”) announces an operations update for Egypt.

The Company has completed drilling the second South K-field development well at K-45 which was targeting the main Asl A sand in a crestal position in South K-field. The well was drilled to a total depth of 5,831 feet and encountered main Asl A sand approximately 66 feet structurally higher than the K-46 well and is structurally the highest well in South K-field Asl A & B pools. K-45 encountered an internally estimated 195 feet of net oil pay comprised of 120 feet of net oil pay in the Asl A pool (A1, A2 and A3), and 75 feet of net oil pay in the Asl B pool. The Company plans to initially complete the Asl B formation in K-45 and place the well on production in early May.

Following K-45, the drilling rig is scheduled to move to West Gharib and NW Gharib to drill Arta 54 and NWG 38A-3 respectively. Arta 54 is targeting the Nukhul/Red bed formation at the northern edge of the main Arta pool. The NWG 38A-3 well is planned as a water injection well to provide reservoir pressure support and enhanced recovery in the NWG 38 Red Bed pool. The first three wells drilled in the NWG 38 pool did not encounter a water leg and are currently producing at a combined, restricted rate of approximately 920 Bopd. It is expected that the current production rates will be optimized upon completion of the water injection scheme and stabilized reservoir pressures.

Following NWG 38A-3, the rig will return to the West Bakr concession and drill up to three development wells including two wells inside the recently negotiated reduced buffer zone targeting the M-field Asl A formation.

HOUSTON, FEB/21/2018
Tayvis Dunnahoe

SDX Energy Inc. anticipates spudding the Ibn Yunus-1X exploration well at South Disouq, Egypt, in mid-March. The operator signed a contract with Sino-Tharwa Drilling Co. for the ST-6 rig, which includes agreement for four additional firm wells. The rig is on location in Egypt’s Western Desert completing drilling for a separate operator and is expected to be released this month.

SDX expects a 30-40 day drilling window targeting the Abu Madi conventional gas interval discovered in April 2017 in the SD-1X well, which tested 25.8 MMcfd and 43 b/d of condensate on a 48/64-in. choke (OGJ Online, Sept. 21, 2017). The Abu Maadi formation is at 7,100 ft. Once drilling is completed at Ibn Yunus-1X, the rig will move to the SD-1X discovery to drill two appraisal wells and then on to drill SDX’s Kelvin-1X exploration prospect.

The Ibn Yunus-1X and Kelvin-1X wells are targeting up to 150 bcf of gas and, if successful, SDX plans to tie back to the SD-1X processing facility.

Is Egyptian Oil Set For A Rebound? - OILPRICE.com

Sep 03, 2017, 4:00 PM CDTHaley Zaremba

This week Egypt signed three major exploration deals with oil giants Royal Dutch Shell and Apex worth at least $81.4 million. The hefty international contracts will kickstart a large-scale oil and gas exploration in 16 new fields in the oil-rich Western Desert.

In a statement released by the Petroleum Ministry, it was announced that Shell will be investing $35.5 million in a single deal, while U.S.-based Apex has signed two different deals totalling $45.9 million, a hefty investment for their first ever projects in Egypt. The deals collectively encompass a massive 1.7 million acres, comprised of the areas of West Badr el Din and South East Meleiha.

While Egypt was once a major player in the global oil supply, their production has fallen sharply over the last years as demand has increased, putting them in the unfortunate position of being a net importer after years of being an energy exporter. Now, after the last few years of political turmoil, the government is making effort to get back on its feet. These deals with Shell and Apex are just the latest in an aggressive government campaign to bring foreign investment and exploration back onto Egyptian soil.
