The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) AG announces that construction in Greece, the pipeline’s greatest geography, advances on time, on track and on budget. Thanks to the efforts of the over 3000 people working for the project, 13 months after the Inauguration Ceremony works have significantly progressed in two of the three northern Greek prefectures to be traversed by the pipeline: eastern Macedonia-Thrace and central Macedonia.

As of end May 2017, out of the approximately 550 km of pipeline in total to be built on Greek soil, TAP’s contractors have already:

EUROPIPE to provide pipes for Egypt’s Zohr project - WORLD PIPELINES

The EUROPIPE GmbH will be delivering 132 000 t (227 km) of thick walled offshore large diameter pipes, measuring 26 in. dia. (660 mm) for the development of the Zohr gas field located off Egypt’s Mediterranean coastline.

The order was booked by Salzgitter Mannesmann International GmbH, a trading subsidiary of the Group. The large diameter pipes that are scheduled for delivery from May to December 2016. EUROPIPE's shareholders are to supply the input material for manufacturing the large diameter pipes.

A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Giorgos Tsipras, Secretary General for International Economic Relations at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took place at the Company’s headquarters on 1 March.

The parties expressed their appreciation for the current state of the Russian-Greek partnership in the energy sector and discussed its development prospects. A focus was placed on efforts for securing transit of Russian gas across Greece to Italy as part of the TurkStream project.

95 km of TAP pipeline already completed - WORLD PIPELINES

It has recently been announced that 95 km of pipe has been installed on the Trans Adriatic pipeline (TAP), seven months after the opening ceremony for construction.

The 878 km pipeline project will transport natural gas from Turkey’s border to southern Italy, and will cross Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea. The gas will supply Balkan and European markets.

The pipeline will hold a transport capacity of approximately 10 billion m3/y and has the potential to increase in the future.

The line is expected to be in-service in 2020.

Construction continues in the Southern Gas Corridor - WORLD PIPELINES

The European Commission’s Southern Gas Corridor initiative consists of three key pipelines to supply gas from Caspian regions to Europe, with an overarching aim of securing Europe’s gas supply.

This programme has seen the construction of the Trans Anatolian natural gas pipeline (TANAP) and Trans Adriatic pipeline (TAP) pipelines, the expansion of the South Caucasus pipeline, and the development of the Shah Deniz 2 gas field.

This article provides a brief overview of recent events relating to the TANAP and Trans Adriatic pipeline TAP projects.

Greece-Bulgaria pipeline receives bids - WORLD PIPELINES

According to a news statement from ICGB – the joint venture building the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) natural gas pipeline – five offers were submitted for the use of the pipeline on a long term basis for the binding phase of the market test.

IGB is estimated to cost approximately €220 million (US$235 million). The pipeline will transport gas with a total capacity of 4.3 billion m3 of natural gas. According to the statement, the second phase of the market test saw capacity amount to 2.7 billion m3, of which 1.57 billion m3 are reserved. It is expected that the IGB pipeline will connect to the Trans Adriatic pipeline (TAP) to, in turn, allow Bulgaria to receive Azerbaijani gas.

TANAP to be 55% complete by the end of 2016 - WORLD PIPELINES

Construction of the Trans Anatolian gas pipeline project (TANAP) has begun and is expected to be 55% complete by the end of the year, according to Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Berat Albayrak. The pipeline is expected to serve as a new alternative for energy supplies to Europe, which, alongside TurkStream, will allow Turkey to become gas trade centre.

The minister also noted that Turkey, being located close to the energy-rich regions, such as the Caspian Sea region, the Middle East and Central Asia, is moving in the direction of becoming an energy hub and diversifying its energy sources.
