Egypt’s petroleum ministry said on Tuesday that Italian energy group Eni made three oil and gas discoveries in the western desert.

The discoveries include oil, gas and condensate discoveries in the Meleiha concession, and an oil discovery in the South Mleiha concession area.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum, the finds in the Meleiha Development Concession were found via the Yasmin W-1X and MWD-21 wells, which were drilled in the Aman region near the West Meleiha deep field, respectively.

San Donato Milanese (Milan), 16 September 2020 – Eni (as the Operator of the Block) and bp (as contractor member) announce a new gas discovery in the so-called "Great Nooros Area", located in the Abu Madi West Development Lease, in the conventional waters of the Nile Delta, offshore Egypt.

This new discovery, achieved through the Nidoco NW-1 exploratory well, is located in 16 meters of water depth, 5 km from the coast and 4 km north from the Nooros field, discovered in July 2015.

The Nidoco NW-1 exploratory well discovered gas-bearing sands for a total thickness of 100 meters, of which 50 meters within the Pliocene sands of the Kafr-El-Sheik formations and 50 meters within the Messinian age sandstone of the Abu Madi formations, both levels with good petrophysical properties. In the Abu Madi formations a new level, which was not yet encountered in the Nooros field, has been crossed proving the high potential of the Great Nooros Area and the further extension of the gas potential to the North of the field.

Eni: New gas discovery in the Mediterranean Sea offshore Egypt - ENI

Eni have successfully drilled the first exploration well in the North El Hammad license, in the conventional Egyptian waters of the Nile Delta, on the prospect called Bashrush. The discovery further extends to the west the gas potential of the Abu Madi formation reservoirs discovered and produced from the so-called "Great Nooros Area".

San Donato Milanese (Milan), 1 July 2020 - Eni (as the Operator of the Block), BP and Total (as Contractor members) have successfully drilled the first exploration well in the North El Hammad license, in the conventional Egyptian waters of the Nile Delta, on the prospect called Bashrush.

The new discovery is located in 22 meters of water depth, 11 km from the coast and 12 km North-West from the Nooros field and about 1 km west of the Baltim South West field, both already in production.

Baltim’s Third Well to Be Linked to Year-End Production - EGYPT OIL & GAS

Italian giant, Eni, is working on linking the third well of Baltim field to production by the end of 2019, an official source told Alborsa news.

The third well is expected to add around 100 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) of natural gas and 650 barrels of condensates.

After linking the third well to production, the field’s production is anticipated to reach 290 mmcf/d of natural gas and 1,950 barrels per day (b/d) of condensates, according to the sources.

The source noted that Baltim field includes six well of natural gas with an average production rate of around 75-100 mmcf/d of natural gas, making the total production of natural gas reach 500 mmcf/d.

House signs off on eight oil and gas exploration agreements - ENTERPRISE / AL MAL

The House of Representatives approved on Sunday eight oil and gas exploration agreements, Al Mal reported. 

Most of the licenses awarded were for oil concessions: Neptune Energy got the go ahead for exploration and production in the Gulf of Suez, Shell received a license for three areas in the Western Desert, Merlon El Fayum will explore in West Fayoum, and Pacific Oil and Ganope will take Ras El Ush in the Gulf of Suez. 

Eni’s joint venture IEOC, meanwhile, received a gas license to explore in the South East Siwa and West Razek concessions.

Zohr natgas output to surpass 3 bcf/d this month - ENTERPRISE

Zohr natgas production to exceed 3 bcf/d this month: Production from the 13 wells at the giant Zohr natural gas field is expected to surpass 3 bcf/d by the end of October, up from 2.7 bcf/d in August, Eni IEOC JV boss Luca De Caro said on the sidelines of the Mediterranean Offshore Conference in Alexandria, the Oil Ministry said in a statement. Eni originally estimated that production would peak at 2.7 bcf/d, but the ministry said earlier this year that output would rise above 3 bcf/d in 2019.

More wells on the horizon: Eni plans to drill 11 exploration wells in the Nile Delta, Western Desert and the Gulf of Suez regions this year and nine other wells in the coming year, De Caro said. Eni has also been producing 1.2 bcf/d of natural gas from its Nooros gas field since the end of 2017 when the two phases of the project were completed. High profile representatives from BP, Wintershall DEA, Shell and Edison also attended the conference, which kicked off yesterday.

BP eyes natgas output of 500 mcf/d from Baltim South West by mid-2020 - ENTERPRISE

BP aims to increase natural gas production to 500 mcf/d by the middle of 2020 when it completes the development of its Baltim South West field, a source from EGAS told the press. 

Work is still ongoing to develop the field and link it to the national gas grid. Eni estimated the field to hold 1 tcf of natural gas after it was discovered in 2016. 

Six wells in the development lease were originally slated to be linked to production in 2H2017. Little has been heard of the field since then. 

Eni (through its Italian Egyptian Oil Company subsidiary) and BP both hold 50% stakes in the field.

Cabinet denies giving up stake in Zohr gas field to foreign company - EGYPT TODAY

CAIRO - The Cabinet's media center revealed Sunday that Egypt did not give up its stake in Egypt’s gas field,Zohr,to a foreign company, stressing that all the rumors on social media are baseless.

Zohr is not the only gas field in Egypt; West Nile Delta (WND), Greater Nooros Area, Atoll Phase 1, and WDDM – Burullus Phase 9B are all important gas fields that add to the national gas production.

Egypt’s total gas production came to 6.6 billion scfd in September, compared to 2017’s average of 5.1 billion scfd and 2016’s 4.4 billion scfd, according to the Petroleum Ministry, meaning that between 2018 and 2017, there was a 29.4 percent year-on-year increase.

Italian Oil Company Eni discovered Egypt's giant gas field, Zohr, in 2015. In December 2017, the company delivered the first gas production from the field estimated at 30 trillion cubic feet, which makes it the biggest gas field in the Mediterranean region.

San Donato Milanese (Milan), 14 March 2019 – Eni announces a new gas discovery under evaluation in the Nour exploration prospect located in the Nour North Sinai Concession, in the Eastern Egyptian Mediterranean, about 50 km North of the Sinai peninsula.

The Nour-1 New Field Wildcat (NFW), which has led to the discovery, was drilled by the Scarabeo-9 semi-sub in a water depth of 295 meters and reached a total depth of 5,914 meters.

Nour-1 well found 33 meters of gross sandstone pay with good petrophysical properties and an estimated gas column of 90 meters in the Tineh formation of Oligocene age. The well has not been tested, however an intense and accurate data acquisition has been carried out.

Shell, ExxonMobil, BP, Petronas and IEOC among the firms to secure exploration rights in 12 concessions

The head of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation announced the winners of 12 new concessions at an event in Cairo on Tuesday, stating that $750 million to $800 million worth of investments would be made.

The General Petroleum Company (GPC) won a $5 million tender to explore in the West Amer sector, allowing it to drill 10 new wells, involving a total investment of $20 million.

Neptune Energy Egypt won an $11 million concession for the drilling of three wells and a financial commitment of $ 34.5 million. Merlon Petroleum won a $3.2 million tender to drill eight wells and an investment of $36 million.

Shell Egypt won three separate concessions. The first is a $27 million tender in the West Fayoum field, involving the drilling of six wells, the second is a $23 million tender to dig five wells south-east of Horus and the third is a $1 million tender to drill three wells in South Abu Sinan. Combined, the tenders involve a capital commitment to invest $57 million.

Letter of intent for the award of new E&C offshore word order for the ramp up to plateau phase of the Zohr field development project, worth more than 1.2 billion USD - SAIPEM

San Donato Milanese (Milan), December 20, 2018 - Saipem and Petrobel have negotiated an offshore contract addendum worth more than 1.2 billion USD for Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) activities in relation to the “Ramp Up to Plateau” phase of the “supergiant” Zohr Field Development Project situated in the Mediterranean Sea off the Egyptian coast.

Petrobel is a 50-50 joint venture between EGPC (Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation) and IEOC (an Eni subsidiary in Egypt) and is in charge of the development of Zohr on behalf of PetroShorouk, a joint venture between EGAS (Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company) and IEOC, Rosneft, BP and Mubadala Petroleum.

The current addendum to the work includes the installation of a second 30-inch diameter gas export pipeline, infield clad lines, umbilicals and electrical/fiber optic cable, as well as EPCI work for the field development in deep water (up to 1700 metres) of 10 wells.

The Ramp Up to Plateau phase is scheduled to commence in January 2019, in direct continuity with the Optimised Ramp Up phase which has been completed in an outstanding 17-month project execution period from its contract award.

Eni announces second oil discovery in Egypt's Faghur basin - WORLD OIL

MILAN -- Eni announces a second light oil discovery on the B1-X exploration prospect located in South West Meleiha license, in the Egyptian Western Desert, some 130 km North of the oasis of Siwa.

The well is the second one drilled by Eni to explore the deep geological sequences of the Faghur basin. SWM B1-X has been drilled 7 km away from the first discovery (SWM A2-X), to a TD of 4,523 m and encountered 35 m net of light oil in the Paleozoic sandstones of Dessouky formation of Carboniferous age and in the Alam El Bueib sandstones of Cretaceous Age.

The well has been opened to production in the Dessouky sandstones and delivered 5,130 bopd of light oil (37° API) with low associated gas.

INVESTMENT WATCH- Did Eni pledge USD 3 bn in investments in Egypt? Eni plans to allocate USD 3 bn in new investments in Egypt over “the coming period,” Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi said, according to a purported statement from the Oil Ministry floating around in the local press on Thursday. The company’s investments in the fields of Nooros and Zohr now stood at USD 8.4 bn, Descalzi reportedly said during a sit down with Oil Minister Tarek El Molla.

Eni is also keen on exploring possible projects in renewable energy, Descalzi said in a meeting with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, according to an Ittihadiya statement. While the statement gave no detail, it is likely that Descalzi is speaking of building a 50 MW solar power plant in the Red Sea’s Abu Redis to sell power directly to consumers under an independent power producer (IPP) framework. Eni was one of five companies that had submitted proposals back in April to build under the IPP framework.

Mubadala enters Egypt with Zohr acquisition: Descalzi’s statements come a day after Eni finalized a 10% stake sale in the Shorouk concession, which holds the Zohr gas field, to the UAE’s Mubadala Petroleum, according to a statement from the Oil Ministry. The USD 934 mn agreement, which was signed by Eni in March, now sees Eni’s share through its JV with the Oil Ministry IEOC fall to 50%, with Rosneft holding a 30% and BP taking 10% alongside Mubadala’s 10%. Mubadala Petroleum completes acquisition from Italy's Eni of the interest in the Shorouk concession in Egypt, which contains the giant Zohr gas field

Mubadala Petroleum has announced that it has completed the acquisition from Italy’s Eni of a 10 percent interest in the offshore Shorouk concession in Egypt, which contains the giant Zohr gas field.

Following the completion, Eni, through its subsidiary IEOC, holds a 50 percent interest in the concession. The other partners in the concession are BP with 10 percent interest and Rosneft with 30 percent interest.

The Zohr field was discovered by Eni in August 2015 and is the largest natural gas field ever found in the Mediterranean, with a total potential of up to 30 trillion cubic feet of gas in place.

The field is currently producing over 1.1 billion cubic feet of gas per day (bcfd), equivalent to approximately 200,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Production is expected to increase to 2 bcfd by end 2018 and to reach a production plateau of 2.7 bcfd by end 2019.

Cabinet approves establishment of Nuweiba freezone - ENTERPRISE

CABINET WATCH- The Ismail Cabinet approved yesterday the establishment of a freezone in Nuweiba and will offer investment incentives there including 50% tax cuts for three years. The 1 mn sqm zone is expected to see as much as USD 40 mn in infrastructure-related investment, South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda said yesterday. The freezone is part of the government’s Sinai development strategy, which relies significantly on attracting local and Arab investors to the peninsula to spur growth, Investment Minister Sahar Nasr told reporters yesterday.

The ministers also signed off on legislation allowing the oil minister to sign oil exploration and production agreements in Ras Qattara with the EGPC, the International Egyptian Oil Company, and Croatian oil and gas company INA; in in the Gulf of Suez’s North Zaafarana concession with Zaafarana Petroleum Company, Oceaneer Zaafarana, and Sahary for Oil and Gas; and in the West Delta Deep Water Concession with Shell and PICL Egypt Corporation.

Eni announces that the cumulative oil production of AGIBA, the operating joint venture company between Eni’s subsidiary IEOC Production BV and Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), has reached 500 million barrels today.

AGIBA is active since 1981 with operations mainly focused in Eni’s oil and gas concessions located in the Western Desert Area of Egypt, where the recent effort towards new exploration and development activities has brought to unprecedented results.

In particular, thanks to the development of a number of new discoveries such as Rosa North, Emry Deep and Melehia West Deep within existing conventional asset, AGIBA, leveraging on its operated infrastructures has been able to produce and valorize oil resources amounting to around 110 MMbbls in the latest 5 years, thus reaching the target of 500 MMbbls as oil cumulative production.

San Donato Milanese (Milan), 15 March 2018 - Eni has strengthened its record production from the Nooros gas field, offshore Egypt, which reached a production of 32 million cubic meters per day, equivalent to around 215,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed). This production level represents the highest ever recorded by an Eni field in Egypt in the last 50 years.

This significant result has been reached thanks to the start-up of the NW-7 well, the thirteenth drilled within this field. Production levels will increase further by June 2018 when a fourteenth well, currently under drilling, will start-up. This is expected to allow Eni to reach 34 million cubic meters per day of production, equivalent to around 230,000 boed.

MILAN (Reuters) - Italian oil company Eni (ENI.MI) said on Sunday it would sell a 10 percent stake in the Shorouk concession in Egypt’s Zohr gas field to Mubadala Petroleum of the United Arab Emirates for $934 million.

Eni currently holds through its subsidiary IEOC a 60 percent stake in the block, the biggest ever gas discovery in the Mediterranean, with 400 million standard cubic feet per day.

Rosneft (ROSN.MM) holds a 30 percent share and BP (BP.L) 10 percent.

The deal fits with Eni’s so-called ‘dual exploration’ strategy, under which the state-controlled group aims to sell down stakes in fields it operates in order to raise cash to fund future development and support dividends.

“(The deal) represents a further signal about the strength and quality of this world-class asset,” said ENI Chief Executive Claudio Descalzi.
