Sinopec Evaluating Projects in Egypt - EGYPT OIL & GAS

The Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla, met with Sinopec’s Vice President, Ling Yiqun, to discuss joint cooperation and investments opportunities in Egypt’s hydrocarbon sector, Egypt Oil & Gas reports.

Noting Sinopec’s expertise, El Molla urged the Chinese company to continue to invest in Egypt’s hydrocarbon market.

For his part, Yiqun expressed the company’s interest in expanding its investments in Egypt and said that Sinopec is currently evaluating several promising petroleum projects in the country.

UK embassy launches Oil & Gas International Scholarship Programme for Egyptian students - AHRAM ONLINE

The British Embassy in Egypt launched the Oil and Gas International Scholarship Programme on Monday for up to 2,000 Egyptian employees over the coming five years to meet the changing needs of businesses in the oil and gas sector, according to an embassy statement.

The programme, which is the largest scholarship program in its sector in Egypt, aims to "support the work of the Egyptian government as it modernises the oil and gas sector," the embassy said in an emailed statement late on Monday.

The program was designed by the International Academy for Advanced Research and Studies (IARS) and its training partner Pearson, the largest awarding body in UK, in cooperation with Oil and Gas Skills Egypt (OGS). It will provide accessible and affordable high-quality international training programs, the embassy statement said.

Egypt plans $4bln petrochemical complex in Suez: minister - ZAWYA / AMWAL AL GHAD

Egypt is planning to establish a petrochemical complex in Suez, with an investment cost worth more than $4 billion, Petroleum Minister Tarek el-Molla said Thursday.

The Ministry of Petroleum will build the complex in partnership with Ministry of Public Business Sector, el-Molla added in a press conference.

The Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM) as well as refineries affiliated to the petroleum sector will also cooperate to implement the project, the Egyptian minister said.

The Japanese manufacturer Toyota will be in charge of the industrial technologies needed for the complex, he added.

Propylene production studies to be completed next month in cooperation with Technip, Salah

The Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM) is considering the implementation of four projects to produce derivatives of propylene, ammonium, formaldehyde, and medium density fiberboard (MDF) with investments amounting to $5bn.

Business development engineer at the company Nouran Salah said that ECHEM will complete the technical and financial studies for the propylene production projects next month, in cooperation with the consulting firm Technip.

The Oil Ministry is establishing four new petrochemicals projects worth a combined EGP 1 bn, Oil Minister Tarek El Molla told Al Masry Al Youm.

The projects come as Egypt looks to maximize the petrochemicals value chain. 

Speaking at the general assembly of The Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company, El Molla stressed the importance of taking into account the availability of domestic production inputs, or the possibility of importing to bridge the gap between supply and demand to maintain production at these new projects.

MOU signed between GASCO and Tecnicas Reunidas for enhanced methane recovery project study - ENERGY EGYPT / MINISTRY OF PETROLEUM

Eng. Tarek El-Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Mr. Arturo Avello, the Spanish Ambassador in Cairo, witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO) and Spanish company Tecnicas Reunidas, one of the largest international companies specializing in engineering design and construction of oil and gas projects.

The MOU is for the preparation of a technical and economic feasibility study and the provision of finance offers for the second phase of the enhanced methane recovery project at the Western Desert Gas Complex (WDGC). The project aims to maximize the production of ethane/propane mixture, which forms the basis for the production of ethylene and polyethylene in the petrochemical industry, thus contributing to securing feedstock and raw material for new and existing petrochemical projects.

The Memorandum was signed by Eng. Karem Mahmoud, Chairman of GASCO and Mr. Ricardo Sanchez Galindo, Commercial Director of Tecnicas Reunidas. The signing took place in the presence of Eng. Mohamed Taher, First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum for Petroleum Affairs, Eng. Khaled Abdel Badie, Head of Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), and Eng. Mohamed Safaan, President and Chairman of Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM).
