SUBSEA 7 awarded contract offshore Egypt - SUBSEA 7

Subsea 7 announced today the award of a sizeable(1) engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning contract by Burullus Gas Company for the West Delta Deep Marine Phase 9b development project, offshore Egypt.

The scope includes connecting six new wells into existing subsea facilities using umbilicals and flexible flowlines. Project management and engineering work has already commenced at Subsea 7’s office in Cairo, Egypt and Paris, France. Fabrication of the subsea structures and spools will be carried out at Petrojet’s yard near Alexandria, Egypt.

Offshore work is scheduled to commence in the second half of 2019.

Aquatic's dual tensioner a key part of the installation for the Pharaonic/PHPC Atoll project - AQUATIC SUBSEA

Aquatic has been selected to provide tensioning capabilities to DeepOcean BV on behalf of Subsea 7 for the Pharaonic /PHPC Atoll Main umbilical installation project in Egypt. Aquatic will provide its Dual Tensioner System solution to tension the umbilical during installation.

Since its design and implementation, this dual tensioner configuration has operated successfully on numerous projects globally. Our team will work closely with our clients to customize our equipment on deck and adapt the dual tensioner solution to the project’s requirements.”

The 112km umbilical will be installed at a water depth of 923m, extending to a beach tie-in at the West Harbour Terminal, near Port Said, Egypt. Mobilization is scheduled for August 2017 from Blyth Northumberland, with an anticipated project duration of 70 days.

LUXEMBOURG – Gas production has started ahead of schedule at BP’s West Nile Delta Phase One project offshore Egypt, according to Subsea 7.

The contractor, which provided SURF services for the project, continues to work on the West Nile Delta platform extension and tie-in and BP’s Atoll project in the same area.

Elsewhere, the company is preparing to complete the final offshore campaign later this year for Wintershall’s Maria subsea project in the Norwegian Sea.

Contractor heavily tipped to take major pipeline installation contract

Paris and New York-listed TechnipFMC is the front-runner to secure a major pipeline installation contract for Noble Energy’s initial $3.75-billion Leviathan project off Israel.

Industry sources said the super-contractor has beaten off rival bids from Subsea 7 and Allseas, among others, to secure pole position in the eyes of the US independent.

“We think they have got Leviathan,” said a project watcher.

Another market player added: “It’s TechnipFMC for Leviathan.”

TechnipFMC’s pipelay contract is expected to cover a pair of 117-kilometre pipelines taking gas and condensate, separately, to a big fixed platform installed on Israel’s continental shelf, about 10 kilometres off the coast.

LUXEMBOURG – Subsea 7 says the last stage of the offshore campaign is under way in the Egyptian sector of the Mediterranean Sea for Phase One of the West Nile Delta project on the Taurus and Libra fields.

Fabrication has started for Phase Two on the Giza, Fayoum, and Raven fields. The company’s work on the East Nile Delta project is substantially completed and its engineering teams have mobilized for the newly awarded Atoll project.

Offshore Brazil, the last of the company’s newbuild Brazilian PLSVs, Seven Cruzeiro, started a long-term contract in January.

In the UK North Sea, preparations have continued for installation of pipeline bundles for the Culzean, Callater, and Western Isles projects.

Subsea 7 is cautiously optimistic about future prospects. It says the oil and gas market has achieved a degree of stability in recent months and there are indications that project sanctions will increase.

With significant investment going into the Black Sea, the region will be a main focus area for subsea operations in 2017. So will the Eastern Mediterranean after partners in the Leviathan gas field offshore Israel approved a development plan for a huge production and export project.

Dutch dredging and marine construction company Van Oord has been awarded two contracts by international contractor Subsea 7.

The assignments include the construction of a landfall and the execution of subsea rock installation works in Egypt. The projects are part of the West Nile Delta project, which comprises the development of a series of gas fields, located 65km off the northern coast of Egypt. The final client is oil and gas company BP. Preparations on site have already started.

The landfall scope of work consists of the installation of a cofferdam, trenching and pipe pull activities and will be executed in 2017. The landfall location is at the Burrulus terminal near Idku, 50km from Alexandria. Van Oord will deploy a trailing suction hopper dredger, a backhoe dredger and 600t winch. The flexible fallpipe vessel Stornes will be deployed to execute rock installation activities to prevent upheaval buckling.

Subsea 7 has won a substantial contract to install subsea systems and pipelines on the Atoll project offshore Egypt

Some of the predicted contract awards for offshore construction and support vessels in the Eastern Mediterranean are starting to materialise. There has been great expectation recently that large gas discoveries in the region will result in new contracts for subsea construction companies and supporting vessels. In November, one of the first of the expected contracts was awarded.

Subsea 7 gained a substantial order for offshore construction work in Egypt. It gained the contract from Pharaonic Petroleum Co, an affiliate of BP, for subsea engineering, procurement, construction and installation work on the Atoll project. Subsea 7 will be responsible for installing more than 40km of rigid pipelines and associated structures for the new Atoll field. The water depths for the installation work range from 100m to 900m. Subsea 7 will also be tying these pipelines into the existing Taurt field facilities, which are in water depths of 100m, and installing 105km of umbilicals to connect subsea wells on the Atoll field.

LUXEMBOURG – Subsea 7 has completed offshore operations on the fasttrack East Nile Delta project in the Egyptian sector of the Mediterranean Sea.

During 3Q, the Seven Borealis was engaged in pipelay for the first phase of the West Nile Delta project.

Last month, Subsea 7 secured an [EPCI] contract for the Atoll project in the same area, lifting the total value of its contract awards offshore Egypt over the past 18 months to almost $1.8 billion.

ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands – Subsea 7 has contracted Van Oord to construct the landfall and execute subsea rock installation works for the West Nile Delta project in the Egyptian sector of the Mediterranean Sea. Preparations on-site have already started.

The BP-operated project, located 65 km (40 mi) offshore northern Egypt, comprises the development of a series of gas fields. The first phase, which includes the Taurus and Libra fields, consists of a nine-well tieback to the existing Burullus facilities.

Subsea 7 S.A. (Oslo Børs: SUBC, ADR: SUBCY) today announced the award of a substantial contract, offshore Egypt, by Pharaonic Petroleum Company to be executed at water depths of over 900 metres in the Atoll field. Subsea 7 defines a substantial contract as being between USD 150 million and USD 300 million. 

The contract scope includes the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of more than 40 kilometres of rigid pipelines and associated structures for the new Atoll field, tying into the existing Taurt field at a water depth of 100 metres. A 105 kilometre umbilical will also be installed linking the Atoll field to shore.

Luxembourg - 26 February, 2016 - Subsea 7 S.A. (Oslo Børs: SUBC, ADR: SUBCY) announced today the award of a major(1) contract by BP, and partner DEA (Deutsche Erdoel AG), for the development of the Giza, Fayoum and Raven subsea fields offshore Alexandria, Egypt.

This is the second phase of the West Nile Delta project, where the field development will be at depths of up to approximately 800 metres.

The contract scope includes engineering, procurement, installation and pre-commissioning of the subsea infrastructure from twelve wells, with 80 kilometres of umbilicals and 220 kilometres of pipelines. It also includes the installation of the export lines from the subsea location to the Idku terminal.

Engineering and project management work will commence immediately and will be undertaken at Subsea 7's Global Projects Centre in London. Offshore installation is scheduled to commence in two stages.

Subsea 7 inked a contract estimated to be between US$50 million to $150 million with Burullus Gas Co. for the platform extension and tie-in on the first phase of BP's West Nile Delta development of the Taurus and Libra fields, offshore Egypt.

Subsea 7's Cairo office and Subsea 7's Global Projects Centre in London will immediately begin engineering and project management work on the project.


Fabrication of the deck extension and spools will be carried out at the Petrojet Maadia yard near Alexandria. Offshore work is scheduled to commence in 2H 2016 using Subsea 7's Rockwater 2 as the main hook-up and accommodation vessel with Seven Borealis performing the offshore lift of the platform extension and the heavy construction vessel, Seven Arctic, installing the umbilical, Subsea 7 said.

The $12 billion West Nile Delta project involves the development of 5 Tcf of gas resources and 55 MMbbl of condensates. Production from the project is expected to be around 1.2 Bcf/d, equivalent to about 25% of Egypt’s current gas production. All the produced gas will be fed into the country’s national gas grid. Production is expected to start in 2017.

At the end of July, Subsea 7 won a contract worth about $500 million from BP for the development of the Taurus and Libra subsea fields offshore Alexandria, Egypt, in the first phase of Egypt's West Nile Delta.

Earlier this month, BP Egypt completed the acquisition of 22.75% in the North Alexandria Concession and 2.75% in the West Mediterranean Deep Water Concession from Hamburg-based DEA Deutsche Erdoel, which brought the company's working interest in both concessions of the West Nile Delta project to 82.75%. 

In mid-May, BP increased its interest in the West Nile Delta project in Egypt after partner DEA farmed down its stake, which left DEA holding 17.25% in North Alexandria and West Mediterranean Deepwater. DEA formerly held 40% in North Alexandria, and 20% in West Mediterranean Deepwater.
