ExxonMobil considers logistics support center in Damietta Port - ENERGY EGYPT / DAMIETTA PORT AUTHORITY

AUGUST 7, 2019 AT 3:18 PM

Damietta Port Authority (DPA) Chairman, Cpt. Tarek Shahin met with ExxonMobil delegation to discuss their interest in exploring the possibility to establish a logistic support center in Damietta Port for servicing oil and gas fields.

Both sides looked over port capabilities particularly its unique location near recent oil discoveries and gas fields in the Mediterranean, the available multimodal transport facilities which translate into a competitive edge setting Damietta in front of other national ports.

Shahin welcomed the delegation and confirmed readiness to offer all possible facilities to support the new project stressing the fact that Damietta Port does entertain a wonderful package of strong infrastructure tied with wide expertise in such projects. He also pointed out that global enterprises are currently working in Damietta Port in projects serving recently discovered oil fields in the Mediterranean.

Medserv Cyprus awarded logistics contract by Total - MEDSERV

01/07/2019

Earlier today Medserv announced that Medserv (Cyprus) Limited has been awarded a contract by Total E&P Cyprus to provide Shore Base Logistics services for drilling activities taking place offshore Cyprus.

The contract duration is for a firm period of one year with options to extend. Medserv (Cyprus) Limited will provide these services from its facilities in the port of Limassol. The award of this contract makes Total the third major International Oil Company to be working with Medserv in Cyprus, another major step to broaden the Group’s oil and gas client portfolio within the Eastern Mediterranean region.

Eni and Total are lining up a multi-well drilling programme off Cyprus. The drilling is expected to begin by the end of this year or early 2020. The two European majors plan to drill five wells, with one probe in each of five blocks.

Offshore Deposits Offer New Horizons for Cyprus - SOUTH EU SUMMIT

May 9 2019
B. Lana Guggenheim

Thanks to new discoveries of offshore natural gas, Cyprus has a real opportunity to expand its reach in the energy market. But to do this, the island-nation needs to navigate tricky geopolitical realities - as well as expand its current infrastructure – or the opportunity may slip away.

Earlier this year, international energy players discovered two more sites rich in natural gas, just offshore of Cyprus, in Blocks 6 and 10, respectively led by Eni and Total on the one hand, and ExxonMobil and Qatar Petroleum, on the other. This follows previous discoveries in the area, starting as early as 2009, when prospectors discovered reserves of natural gas in the Tamar field off the coast of Israel. Subsequently came the discovery of the Leviathan field offshore of Israel, and the Aphrodite and Calypso fields in Cypriot waters. Altogether, these deposits contain an estimated 40 trillion cubic feet of natural gas – or more.

Currently, both Cyprus and Israel import their energy, but these gas fields have the potential to change all of that, as well as generate revenue via energy exports. Both Europe and Egypt are target markets for this new energy resource, especially as Europe’s demand for natural gas is likely to increase – in part to reduce its reliance on Russia, but also because gas is a cleaner alternative to coal, as the continent slowly transitions to renewable energy sources.

Cyprus contract awarded - THE TIMES OF MALTA

Friday, June 29, 2018, 06:38

Medserv has announced that it has signed a second contract with a multinational oil and gas corporation (TEKMOR note: ExxonMobil most likely) to provide shore base logistics services for exploration activities taking place offshore Cyprus.

To provide these services, the company will be setting up additional logistics facilities in the port of Limassol. It is expected that this contract will be serviced through the group’s internal resources.

Medserv also supports the offshore activity of ENI in the region. The award of this contract is another major step to broaden the group’s oil and gas client portfolio and establishes the company now in eight countries as tendering activity continues.

Contract extension announced
Malta-based oil and gas logistics firm Medserv and Italian oil company Eni have activated a contract extension which will ensure the Maltese company continues to provide operational base support services for Eni Cyprus Ltd for another two years.

The deal, inked with Medserv (Cyprus) Ltd, includes the provision of dedicated facilities and services in the port of Limassol whilst still maintaining the base facilities in Larnaca port.

The two companies had first signed a three-year deal in June 2014, with the contract allowing for a two-year extension. Medserv (Cyprus) Ltd was set up in 2011 to provide logistics and support facilities for the oil and gas sector in the eastern Mediterranean basin.

TOTAL to start drilling off Cyprus on July 14 - IN CYPRUS / CYPRUS WEEKLY

June 23, 2017

French energy giant TOTAL is expected to start exploratory drilling in block 11 of the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone on July 14.

Block 11 covers some 2,958 square kilometres and the drill site is 150 km off the coast of Cyprus.

Before any exploratory work begins, a 4400-metre diameter area around the site will be explored for objects of archaeological interest.

It has already received a positive environmental report stating that there are no endangered species or sensitive biotopes in the area and one state service after the other is issuing the relative licences required.

Total to drill in Cyprus now services base ready - INTERFAX

The services base in Limassol, Cyprus, is ready for Total to use

Total’s services base in Limassol is ready for use, meaning the French major can now start exploring Block 11 offshore Cyprus. EDT Offshore, which won the contract to set up the onshore facility, expects to officially hand over the completed works on Friday. Total will be able to start work within weeks, EDT Offshore Operations Manager Mike Socratous told Interfax Natural Gas Daily.

Total’s plan to explore Block 11 has faced many hurdles [as] the government faced public opposition when it tried to build a services hub at Larnaca, forcing a relocation to Limassol.

Total signed a contract with EDT for its base in Limassol in October 2016, but the contract was immediately contested by two companies that hold contracts to operate the port.

ENI also likely to operate out of Limassol - CYPRUS MAIL

March 30, 2017
Elias Hazou

AFTER energy giants Total, it looks like ENI will likewise operate – albeit grudgingly – out of the port of Limassol for their scheduled drilling operations, slated to get underway later this year.

“Larnaca port is definitely out,” Alecos Michaelides, permanent secretary of the transport ministry and former president of the Cyprus Ports Authority (CPA) board, told the Cyprus Mail.

Michaelides confirmed news reports that DP World, the concession holders operating the multi-purpose terminal of Limassol port for the next 25 years, plan to have an onshore logistics base supporting hydrocarbons activities up and running by this summer.

ENI are contractually bound to start drilling two more wells before February 2018, when their offshore exploration licence expires.

Total to delay Block 11 drilling - CYPRUS MAIL

January 24, 2017
Elias Hazou
French oil major Total has alerted the government that its planned drilling for hydrocarbons in Cyprus’ economic waters will be pushed back to the summer.

According to daily Politis, the company has said that it will delay drilling its first exploratory well to June – rather than April, as indicated earlier.

The well, code-named Onisiforos, lies in Block 11, on which Total has a concession to explore for oil and gas.

The delay is attributed to the prior uncertainty over the location of the company’s onshore support base.

Port deal will allow Total to drill on schedule - CYPRUS MAIL

December 23, 2016
Elias Hazou
A DEAL has been struck between the consortium holding the marine services concession at the port of Limassol and EDT Offshore, allowing French oil major Total to drill its first exploratory well on schedule.

The development means that EDT, can via their port facilities, provide onshore logistical support to Total who plan to drill around April next year.

The breakthrough, which sources said came after ‘marathon negotiations’ between EDT and P&O Maritime – the co-concession holders at Limassol port along with G.A.P. Vassilopoulos – was achieved.

Hopes of Larnaca port vote dashed as irate councillors walk out of meeting - CYPRUS MAIL

MARCH 8TH, 2016 Andria Kades

Larnaca mayor Andreas Louroutziatis extended an invitation to ENI, Noble and Total to operate out of the city’s port on Monday night, flying in the face of AKEL, DIKO, EDEK and Citizens Alliance councillors who stormed out of the session after the council failed to reach a decision to vote.

Louroutziatis and DISY councillors pleaded with them not to, asking them to stay and discuss the company requests.

The marathon meeting, which wrapped up shortly before midnight was punctuated by fighting and shouting matches, between councillors themselves, but also the loud yells of logistics company MedServ employees. According to state radio, workers joined forces with the Nicosia Chamber of Commerce in a bid to force decision makers to approve an extension which would allowing the logistics company offering support services to energy giants to stay in Larnaca.

An opportunity lost: the case of Larnaca port - CYPRUS MAIL

February 9th, 2016, By Reginos Tsanos

The global economy is in turmoil. Large economies are teetering on the brink of collapse. There is volatility across all markets and sectors. The world has borne witness to billions of dollars’ worth of assets and securities being wiped out in just a single day of trading. The Eastern Mediterranean, once a haven for cruise liners, is now a station for warships and aircraft carriers patrolling trouble spots in Syria, Lebanon, and Libya.

Cyprus has been through its own troubles as well. The events that unfolded in March 2013 shook the foundations of everything that was built, particularly in the post-1974 era. But as the government readily informs us that we are ready to exit our economic stability programme, and return the country to growth, there are some events that point worryingly to the fact that we have failed to heed the lessons of the past.
