Gazprom gets go-ahead for second TurkStream offshore gas pipeline - OFFSHORE

MOSCOW – The Turkish authorities have awarded Gazprom a construction permit for the second string of the TurkStream gas pipeline’s offshore section through the Black Sea, terminating at the Turkish coast.

TurkStream operations are in progress at three sections: onshore in Russia and Turkey and offshore in the Black Sea.

Allseas has completed laying more than 760 km (472 mi) of the two offshore strings since the program started last May. Construction of the landfall in Russia is nearly completed, while in Turkey, work has started at the construction site of the receiving terminal.

Gazprom now has all required permits from the Turkish government for the offshore area, and this means both strings of the gas system should be in operation on time, before the end of 2019, said the company’s chairman Alexey Miller.

A working meeting took place today between Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, and Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee.

The meeting explored, among other things, Gazprom’s efforts to expand its resource base, including within the Tambey group of fields in the Yamal Peninsula.

Alexey Miller informed Vladimir Putin of the continuing growth in Russian gas supplies to Europe and the readiness to start laying the offshore section of the TurkStream gas pipeline within a few days.

South Stream Transport B.V. and Allseas Group today signed in Amsterdam a contract to build the second string of the TurkStream gas pipeline’s offshore section. The document was signed as part of the option included in the construction contract for the pipeline’s first string, which had been inked in 2016.

In a similar fashion to the construction of TurkStream’s first string, Allseas plans to use Pioneering Spirit, the world’s largest construction vessel, to lay more than 900 kilometers of pipes across the seabed for the second string of the pipeline.

Background

TurkStream is the project for the construction of a transit-free export gas pipeline stretching across the Black Sea from Russia to Turkey and further to Turkey’s border with neighboring countries. The first string of the gas pipeline is intended for Turkish consumers, while the second string will deliver gas to southern and southeastern Europe. Each string of TurkStream will have the throughput capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters of gas per year. On October 10, 2016, Russia and Turkey signed the Intergovernmental Agreement on the TurkStream project. South Stream Transport B.V., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom, is responsible for the construction of TurkStream’s offshore section.

“In Greece, the pipeline Right of Way (RoW) clearance and grading began close to the Greek-Turkish border as well as near Kavala,” said Lisa Givert, Head of Communications at Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).

“As of today, over 17.3 km of line pipes have been strung along our route and approximately 8.4 km welded. On 19 September the first welded pipes were lowered in,” she noted.

“Line pipes continue to arrive to Kavala, Thessaloniki and Alexandroupolis. So far, approximately 30% of the 32,000 line pipes needed to build the 550km Greek section have been delivered,” Givert added.

Egypt-based Petroleum Marine Services Company (PMS) won executing four large projects including the expansion project of the third basin in Ain Sukhna port for Armed Forces Engineering Authority.

Chairman El-Sayed El-Badawi stated Sunday that PMS is to execute the developmental project of platform Amal C for PICO International Petroleum (PIP), Egypt's largest private sector oil and gas company.

The third project is establishing shipping services for propylene and polypropylene for the Egyptian Propylene and Polypropylene Company (EPPC).

El-Badawi stated that PMS also won the developmental project of HH and NAO fields of the General Petroleum Company (GPC).
