  • Turkey links gas prices to dollar
  • Energy regulation authority hikes electricity prices
  • Botas also hikes natural gas prices for residential use (Adds hikes to electricity and natural gas consumer prices)
ANKARA, July 31 (Reuters) - Turkey’s state pipeline operator Botas will hike the price of natural gas used for electricity production by 50 percent as of Wednesday, sources said.

The price hike was “inevitable” due to a weaker lira pushing oil and natural gas prices higher, as Turkey is mostly dependent on energy imports, energy sources told Reuters.

Earlier on Tuesday, the central bank hiked its crude oil price assumption to $73 from $68.

Turkish natural gas demand slowdown set to persist as Ankara shifts tack: OIES report - PLATTS

London (Platts)--24 Apr 2017 852 am EDT/1252 GMTBy Stuart Elliott, Edited by Dan Lalor
Turkish gas demand -- which five years ago was expected to almost double to 81 Bcm/year by 2030 -- is unlikely to even reach 60 Bcm/year in the near future as a result of a deliberate effort by Ankara to reduce the country's dependence on imported gas, a paper published Monday by the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies concludes.

Turkish gas demand fell last year for the first time since 2009 to 46 Bcm and is expected to be stagnant this year as Turkey looks to depend more on domestic resources for power generation, particularly hydro, coal, lignite, and wind and solar energy, the OIES said in the report.

The OIES said it expects a fall in gas consumption in the power sector in 2017 to be balanced by moderate growth in the residential and industry sectors.

Shale Gas And Its Impact On Turkish Economy – OpEd - EURASIA REVIEW

April 10, 2017
Haluk Direskeneli

“Shale Gas” is on the agenda. What is “Shale gas”? Is Shale Gas production as easy as you might think? Is it cheap? Do we have it in our environment? Can we produce? What is the cost of Shale Gas production? What happens to the environment in Shale Gas production process?

Shale gas is basically natural gas. Only the thermal calorific value is a bit low. Shale gas production is same as Natural Gas production by non-traditional, non-conventional method. The soil structure “thin-bedded, rich in organic matter”, is suitable for producing oil and gas is called “Shale”.

“Shale Gas” is the method of taking the Natural Gas that is trapped between the deep underground rocks. Shale Oil (Shale Petroleum) are removed by the same methods. Shale Gas and Shale Oil production technology are not new practice. Since 1947 there has been market practice in the United States.

Israeli study points to Turkey as cheapest way to carry natural gas - DAILY SABAH

Source: ABO
27.12.2016

TEKMOR note: Turkey (Republic of) is the sole country that does not recognize EU-member Cyprus (Republic of), since it invaded
the northern two fifths of the island in 1974, cleansed it of its majority Christian population and colonises it with populations from mainland Turkey. A pipeline from Israel to Turkey is difficult to say the least without Cyprus' consent.
--

A study titled, "Commercial Opportunities for Turkish Companies," which was prepared by Israel, has revealed that the cost of building a pipeline between Turkey and Israel would vary between $2.6 billion and $3.9 billion and, that if Greece is chosen as a route for the pipeline, the average cost of the pipeline would amount to $7.15 billion to carry the gas to Europe.

According to the study presented by the Israeli Embassy in a meeting attended by officials from energy companies, a possible pipeline between Turkey and Israel might reach 600 kilometers in length.

Anastasiades: Natural gas supply an incentive for Turkey - KATHIMERINI

25.12.2016 : 13:40

Cyprus’s newly-discovered wealth of offshore natural gas could boost the prospects for a peace settlement on the divided island, President Nicos Anastasiades has said a few days after Nicosia said it had picked Eni, Total and ExxonMobil for three exploration licenses.

In an interview with Kathimerini newspaper ahead of next month’s crucial talks in Geneva, the Greek Cypriot leader said that the prospect of covering a significant part of Turkey’s energy needs and of transforming his country into a regional energy hub could prompt Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan into making the much-needed concessions that would pave the way for a deal.

“The most important thing is for [Turkey] to become an energy hub. The normalization of ties with Israel and the need to get natural gas supplies from there, presupposes that that pipelines will run through Cyprus’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The Cyprus Republic may not have veto rights, but it can raise objections over the pipeline route,” said Anastasiades, adding that Ankara could also be interested in the discovery of natural gas deposits.

Turkey's first floating natural gas storage and regasification unit, FSRU, has arrived in Aliağa, İzmir. The FSRU will supply 5.3 billion cubic meters (BCM) of natural gas, raising the daily capacity to 224 million CM

Expected to contribute more than 5 billion cubic meters (BCM) of natural gas to Turkey's annual gas supply, the GDF Suez Neptune plant, Turkey's first Floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) Storage Regasification Unit (FRSU), has started conducting test studies inİzmir's Aliağa district. In a period of only six months unit will be able to transfer the capacity, which is usually activated in four years, to Turkey's national gas supply. This is possible since it operates from the water.

TEHRAN, Oct. 29 (MNA) – NIGC announced on Friday that exports of Iranian gas to Turkey will remain ceased for seven days due to construction processes.

The National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) confirmed the halt in Iran’s natural gas exports to Turkey; “due to an explosion in a gas export pipeline on Turkish territories, the gas flow to the neighboring country has reached a temporarily hiatus.”

“Turkey's Butash Gas Company made correspondences to inform NIGC on the gas incident,” said an official asserting “on Thursday evening at 21:30 p.m., the transmission line to Turkey exploded deep under the ground 12 kilometers from Bazargan border and gas export to the neighboring country is temporarily interrupted.”
