Two new FSRU facilities to be launched in Turkey - ANADOLU AGENCY

Ankara - Two new Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRU) will be put into operation in Turkey, one in Hatay/Dortyol in southern Turkey and the other in Saros Bay on the Gallipoli peninsula in the northwest, Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Berat Albayrak said on Monday.

Speaking at the Turkish Grand National Assembly [Parliament] Plan and Budget Commission, Albayrak said the Hatay FSRU will have a regasification capacity of 29 million cubic meters (mcm) per day and will become operational by the end of the year.

Turkey's natural gas storage capacity will rise to 10 billion cubic meters (bcm), or equal to 20 percent of annual natural gas consumption, he said.

Gas shipping giant BW said its FSRU BW Singapore that is currently operating in Egypt has reached a ship-to-ship transfer milestone.

BW LNG’s first floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) has completed its 100th STS transfer on 22 July 2017, the company said in a brief statement through its social media channels.

BW Singapore was earlier this year relocated to the port in Sumed from the port of Ain Sokhna.

The FSRU started serving as Egypt’s second LNG import terminal in October 2015 under a five-year contract with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS).

Singapore-based gas shipping giant BW said its FSRU BW Singapore has been relocated to the port in Sumed, Egypt to continue its contract with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS).

The FSRU so far served as Egypt’s second import terminal in the port of Ain Sokhna, starting full operation October 2015.

In a brief social media statement, BW’s LNG unit noted that the relocation of the FSRU, which was a business decision made by EGAS, demonstrates the flexibility to optimize operations for the charterer.

BW Singapore, serving EGAS under a five-year charter, has a storage capacity in excess of 170,000 cbm and a peak regasification capacity of 750 mmscfd.

Turkey saw the inauguration of its first floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal last Friday.

The facility includes a jetty and onshore natural gas pipeline connecting regasified LNG from the unit to the neighboring pipeline grid. According to developer ENGIE and its Turkish construction partners, project development took 6.5 months from final investment decision to completion.

The ETKI LNG terminal was built by construction companies Kolin and Kalyon of Turkey. The facility is at Aliaga on the Aegean coast.

Expected to contribute more than 5 billion cubic meters (BCM) of natural gas to Turkey's annual gas supply, the GDF Suez Neptune plant, Turkey's first Floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) Storage Regasification Unit (FRSU), has started conducting test studies inİzmir's Aliağa district. In a period of only six months unit will be able to transfer the capacity, which is usually activated in four years, to Turkey's national gas supply. This is possible since it operates from the water.

According to Reuters, the Turkish energy minister, Berat Albayrak, has said that the country is on track to become a major hub for energy trading, especially for natural gas.

In particular, Albayrak reportedly said that plans were being accelerated for additional gas storage, as well as for a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) for LNG. Turkey is planning to bring the first phase of new storage facilities near Ankara online by January 2017, and upgrades for existing storage facilities are scheduled for completion from 2019 onwards.

Singapore-based gas shipping giant BW said its FSRU BW Singapore, used as Egypt’s second LNG import terminal in Ain Sokhna Port, has achieved a milestone ship-to-ship (STS) transfer.

BW Singapore completed its 50th STS transfer since it started operations in Ain Sokhna in October last year, BW said on Tuesday through its social media channels.

The shipping company confirmed in September last year it had been selected by Egas of Egypt to provide LNG regasification services under a five-year deal utilizing the FSRU.
