US based company Honeywell Process Solutions has announced that it will provide control and safety system for the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) located in Turkey.
The integrated system will make all operations at the compressor stations safe throughout the length of the pipeline.
The TANAP system is equipped to transport up to 31 billion cubic metres of natural gas per year from the Caspian and nearby regions.
Honeywell Turkey and Central Asia region president Orhan Genis said: “Honeywell has a long history of working with critical energy projects in Turkey. This important project will help to secure a supply of natural gas not only to this country but across Europe.”
The 1,850km long pipeline will carry natural gas from the eastern region of Turkey to the western border of Greece through Georgia.
According to Eurogas, the demand of natural gas is expected to increase by 2% annually through to 2030.
Honeywell’s projects and automation solutions business vice president and general manager Pieter Krynauw said: “Honeywell’s integrated solutions will enable TANAP to detect and resolve operational issues early, enhancing reliability for this important project.
"Honeywell provides automation controls and safety solutions for almost 94,000 miles of natural gas and liquid pipelines, including many of the world’s longest systems."
The project will use integrated control and safety products, technology and engineering support from Honeywell.
Honeywell will provide distributed control system (DCS), emergency shutdown system (ESD), and a complete fire and gas solution that includes safety systems, fire alarm panels and a range of process and non-process area detectors.
The TANAP project will use latest technologies such as Experion PKS, Safety Manager and XLS80 Fire Alarm Control Panel from Honeywell.
